   About Corky Siegel's Chamber Blues

SO WHAT IS CHAMBER BLUES?

Is it blues? Is it classical?

Corky Siegel has pioneered an original, genre-busting sound that's part blues, part classical, part world music and 100% unique.

Chamber Blues merges the sparkling qualities of classical music with the emotional melodic style of blues, all within an intimate chamber setting.

Full of lively humor and virtuoso musicianship, Chamber Blues walks the line between Beethoven and B.B. King. Corky's musical hybrid delights listeners of all ages and backgrounds, even those who think that they don't like classical music or blues. It only takes a few notes for your ears to realize that there is nothing quite like Chamber Blues.

WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING ABOUT CHAMBER BLUES?

"A new form of music ... vital and compelling ... astonishing" - Pioneer Press

"A joyous marriage of chamber music and the blues" - Studs Terkel

HOW CLASSICAL MUSIC MET THE BLUES

...this Japanese fellow shows up in 1966 and wants my band - Siegel-Schwall - to jam with his band. His band was the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and he was conductor Seiji Ozawa. He explained that blues was the very spark that classical music needed. Traditionally classical music forms borrowed from the folk forms of the day. And what more important folk form is there than the blues?

THE RECORDING THAT STARTED IT ALL

Three Pieces for Blues Band and Symphony was recorded in 1971 on the paramount of classical labels, Deutsche Grammophon, with the San Francisco Symphony, conductor Seiji Ozawa and the Siegel-Schwall Band. This prompted a second release with Ozawa and the San Francisco Symphony in 1979 titled "Street Music: A Blues Concerto", with Corky as soloist.

After going out of print many years ago, both recordings were recently re-released on a single CD.

Corky Siegel will personally autograph any copies of this CD or any Chamber Blues or Siegel-Schwall CD ordered from Corky's Music Store. This offer is only available through MySpace and Corky's web site, www.chamberblues.com.

One of my best college memories was the opportunity to play in the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra with guest artist Corky Siegel. I heard you all may be coming back to Carbondale in February. Is this true?

Hey Corky,

I caught you playing a solo gig one wintery evening in Chicago about 30 years ago while on my way back to school in Tulsa. My friend Robert OneMan Johnson was sharing the evening with you for that gig. It was while listening to Robert's record collection that I first heard the Siegel Schwall Band. It was your music, as well as that of the many other early blues artists in his collection, that fueled my own musical pursuits.

Thanks for that!
