Chance Gardener formed in the Spring of 1999. The band released the EP “The Letting Go” in 2000, followed by the full length album, “Prove Yourself”. Since then the line-up has changed enough to make Fleetwood Mac and Crowded House envious, but the current force behind its sound is bassist Joe Basso and guitarist-vocalist-songwriter David Chambers.
From 2003 to 2005, Joe and Dave, along with members Mark Nensel and Matthew Richkus played throughout the DC Metro area, most notably playing the Taste of DC festival in 2004, and appearing on Potbelly's Best of Local Bands DC compilation CD. In 2005 they completed their second full-length album entitled "Spinning Plates." In the wake of the album's release, Mark and Matthew left the band.
Joe and David continued to work on new songs, playing live shows, and in 2006 recorded the “3.0” EP with drummer Dan Freedman. In mid-2008 Dan left the band and was replaced by Joe Grassi. Joe’s solid drumming and eclectic tastes were shown off to a rave audience response at his first live show with the band in early 2009. Following that gig, founding member-guitarist-vocalist-songwriter Mark Nensel returned to the fold, and now Chance Gardener is back to its solid and classic two-guitar, bass and drum format, ready to rock with their original tunes covering subjects ranging from demented friends to suburban ennui. Give Chance a chance – come see us live and give a listen to our MP3s.
