One of my pieces, entitled The Fairy Godmother, was accepted for inclusion in the new publication, 500 Handmade Dolls, from Lark Books. The book is available through Amazon here:
The book was juried by fellow Southern Highland Guild member, Akira Blount, and includes quite a few other Guild members, myself among their numbers! There were over 1900 pieces submitted for consideration.
Two of my pieces, After the Masquerade and The Fairy Godmother, were selected for inclusion for this art book from Aristata Publishing, available through fine book retailers. The jury included Danielle Bedics, Julie Bell, Iain McCaig and Robh Ruppel, and approximately only 200 pieces were chosen from more than 1000 entries!

I was commissioned by Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Darrell Scott to create a portrait marionette for the cover of his CD, Theatre of the Unheard. The CD was a Top 100 Critics Pick for 2003 by Rolling Stone Magazine. Darrell has wriiten songs for the Dixie Chicks, who won a Grammy with his song Long Time Gone. Welcome to the Big Top!
..
A member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, Artists United, and the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists, I am an artist specializing in figurative art. My work and writing has been published in Contemporary Doll Collector, DOLLS, Belle Armoire, Faerie and ArtDoll Quarterly magazines, in the new book Aphrodisia II: Art of the Female Form, and I recently appeared on the HGTV program "That's Clever". I graduated with Honors from Middle Tennessee State University in 2003. My BA is in English, with a double minor in Medieval and Classical Studies. I just finished my first book, an independent reader and fairytale set in the 1880s with illustrations by Scottish artist Julia Jeffrey.
For me, part of the excitement surrounding dollmaking is the opportunity it offers to explore modern and traditional techniques and materials. For instance, I often employ a modern technique known as free-motion embroidery, in which I manipulate fabric beneath a moving sewing machine needle to literally draw with thread. However, I am equally interested in the ancient craft of felting fabric, or exploring methods such as the sixteenth century raised embroidery technique known as stumpwork. This combination of the old and the new keeps me invigorated, and affords me fresh perspectives when approaching traditional forms.
Chandra's piece, "After the Masquerade", has been included on the CDRom, "New Masters of Fantasy, Volume III: A Collection of the Year's Best Fantasy Art". Juried by internationally celebrated artists, including Donato Giancola, Jeff Easley, Don Maitz, Janny Wurtz, Larry Elmore, Boris Vallejo, and Julie Bell, the CDRom features over three hundred works of art by one hundred talented artists. "New Masters of Fantasy" is not only a collection for fans of fantasy art to enjoy, but it is also a resource for art directors, publishers and buyers seeking rising stars in the industry. Produced in conjunction with Epilogue.net, the CDRom can be purchased at www.mastersoffantasy.com. You can see my name (alphabetized by first name) listed here:
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
Thanks for adding me here, Chandra! I must look for that book... sounds very much my cup of tea. I hope your birthday is a joyful one! Blessings, Mags xxx
