The Chaos of Birds, a rock trio from DC, is known for it’s beautiful
yet brooding tone; a unique style that hearkens to 60s-era folk and
early 90s grunge. TCoB’s live experience is highlighted by an
unprecedented swagger, brought about musically by genuinely
disconsolate lyrics and a downright sturdy sound. Behind the powerful
voice of Meghan Adkins, the band creates a mood of integrity and
loneliness, inspired as much by the sounds of early Native-American
tribes as the laden-heart birth of grunge in the US. In this era of pop
and math, they are a simple and welcome excursion into a beautifully
bluesy world.
"The Chaos of Birds, gigging tonight at the Black Cat, is talented guitar-based duo who pen familiar, inviting, habit-forming songs. Despite the fact that their Web site identifies their sound as rock/rock/rock, sometimes the two sound like a darkly melodic, country-tinged band of ghosts. Other times they sound like the most talented members of Veruca Salt, Mudhoney and the White Stripes in a scorched-earth Americana act. The Chaos of Birds: The most fun you'll ever have being made to feel lonesome. " --The Washington Post Express

Dollar Bin, The Howling Mad & Ottley - This Fri Sept 5th!
Can you reach The Summit? Or will your oxygen give out and your toes snap off like frozen baby carrots? Will you slide to your doom in a deep crevasse? And will you like it? Will you celebrate the release of CDs by Rambling Shadows and 7 Door Sedan? Will you plum the depths of the Dollar Bin, will you raise a Pup Tent on the ascending slope?
Our 7/4 party @ the Red and the Black made weekly picks by the Washington Post’s Going out Guru’s and Dcist! If you’re in town, we hope you’ll come by and if you’re not, we hope you’ll help spread the word to your friends who will be here :) It’s a Name Your Cover show – as in pay what you want to get in the door and that cash is going to some great non-prof organizations. The night kicks off with a cover song contest and then we’re opening up the dance floor with some great DJs. $3 rail drinks all night. Hope to see you there - we'll still be going long after the fireworks cool off!
Intensive top-secret preparations are underway for D-Day at the Quarry House.

The bristling beachhead of boredom is bound to be breached by all.
Headlining are the hardened veterans of THE BEATNIK FLIES unit under the tenacious generalship of the indomitable Joe “Patton” Dolan with his pearl jam handled revolvers on his hips.
Opening are the eager for action greenhorns DOLLAR BIN under the distinguished leadership of the legendary Randy “Ike” Austin. Their drummer CB has been kidnapped by the dreaded Baltimore Irish Music Mafia for the night, but the brazen multi-instrumentalist Phil Duarte of the Franco-Basque-Portuguese Resistance code named “Pup Tent” will make you rock your fine behind.
Indian Code-Talker Juanita Mendoza Keesing will confound the enemy with her elaborate Yaqui-Apache based jive. How many fascists will be left alive?
