| 一般 | Software engineering (programming), music (singing, composing, guitar, bass, drums, violin/fiddle), politics, movies, French.
The world, in general, interests the shit out of me. I would be fairly hard-pressed to find a college course which would not interest me in any way. I love to learn, although I do tend to go overboard with just about everything I do, making myself crazy trying to do too much.
In the not-too-distant past I have been fanatical about:
American Sign Language (studied for many years, have many deaf friends).
Skydiving (made almost 500 jumps, travelled everywhere, jumped off bridges and antennas, helped set the Wisconsin state record for largest freefall formation).
Rock Climbing (quit when my climbing partners moved to CA and MD).
Tae Kwon Do (studied for about four years and got my blue belt, quit due to injury just as I was getting ready to test for my brown belt).
My music (been playing professionally for 22 years, have released several CDs of my own material, continue to gig locally).
Until about two years ago, my work was only a way to pay the bills so I could make more music. Despite this lack of seriousness, I somehow managed to find a small measure of fame, having my work published in very respected journals like Science and Trends in Biotechnology.
I really love my current job and many of my co-workers, and I find myself more and more concentrating on my career. Programming is a thrilling, creative, and frankly beautiful art form. *I like it very much.* (That last line is much funnier if you picture it being said by a small Japanese boy in disturbing shorts.)
I never thought I'd have the chance to go to college, but I decided to try anyway, and got my Associate's degree before I knew it. Then I kept going. I'm currently about 17 months away from graduating with a BS in Computer Science (taking 2 classes a semester), but I'm very much enjoying the mental stimulation of my classes. | | 音樂 | Currently I don't listen to that much "pop" music, but I love Nirvana, U2, Garbage, Green Day, Alice In Chains, Howie Day, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, and many others. I have a huge affection for classical and also dig bluegrass and celtic music.
I have an enormous bootleg DVD collection of Elvis Presley concerts from the mid 1970's. I have been to Graceland twice, and Elvis, by the way, is the f-ing KING of rock and roll! ;-) I shook hands with Charlie Hodge.
I also have around 200 other concert DVDs. I would estimate I have about three times that many concerts on VHS tapes, but who watches those anymore, ya know? If I had unlimited time I'd transfer them all to DVD, but that would take years of dedication. Perhaps someday, when we all have robots in our homes to do menial tasks for us, I will force mine to do that. Or perhaps my first-born son, when he's old enough to order around. | | 電影 | Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Altered States, Blade Runner, Star Wars (all), Lord of the Rings, Little Big Man, Dream Life of Angels, Clockwork Orange, Quest for the Holy Grail, The Blues Brothers, Amadeus, The Terminator, too many others to mention. 關於我：
I've been a software engineer for 13+ years. I'm currently enrolled part-time at the University of Wisconsin - Madison where I have returned to pursue my BS in Computer Science. I write web-based network management tools by day, and study at night. I have five required classes to go and plan to graduate in May, 2009.
I study French. I'm pretty hardcore about it, and it's something that pays excellent dividends in terms of what I put into it vs the progress I see. I'm currently reading "Interview With The Vampire" in French. I know American Sign Language and I used to be quite proficient with it. It's been a while.
I'm a musician. Have been since I was in fourth grade. I sing, write, and play guitar, bass, drums, fiddle, and whatever else ya got.
When I'm not studying, I enjoy playing and recording music, my job, watching movies, and hanging with my friends and my lovely wife.
I've played with a lot of different bands, including an acoustic rock group called Old Man Sanders. Right now doing the school thing, but I still play occasionally with my old bandmates in Badwolf. Right now, given my time constraints, it's about all I can manage.

Funny, interesting people with big ol' brains in their heads. We don't have to agree on everything as long as you have thought your position through and are open to examining differences of opinion reasonably.
I strive to be that way... not always successfully.
