Charles Earland was born 1941 in Philadelphia. His first contact with musical instruments was the alto sax which he played in the high school band. For a short time, Charles worked together with Jimmy McGriff, but had then his own band. It was in 1963, when Charles discovered his own interest for the organ, after some organists had left his group.
Lou Donaldson engaged Charles in 1968 as the organist of his band. But in 1969, Charles formed his own trio and recorded the famous album "Black Talk" which cleared the way for his sweeping success. From 1970, Charles toured with his own group, appearing also at jazz festivals such as Montreux and Newport.
Charles died in december 1999 in Kansas City.

"Friends
can help each other. A true friend is someone who lets you have total
freedom to be yourself-and especially to feel. Or, not feel. Whatever
you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That's what
real love amounts to-letting a person be what he really is."
Thanks a million Charles for joining our ministry of Blues. It's all about peace, love, understanding and GROOVE! Hope to perform for you sometime, just not too soon. PEACE. Wishing you the very best in Blues and life and afterlife! -Big Daddy

Does anybody know who played last with Charlie? I've got a live concert video I shot the summer before he passed here in Chicago. I'd really like to know who they were. It was a younger guitarist and sax player with a middle aged drummer.
