About me:
I'm a writer, philosopher, and a college writing and philosophy instructor in Portland, Oregon.

I'm not descended from chimpanzees, but I am their cousin, and so are you,
whether you like it or not.

So, I've co-authored this pro-evolution book called The Top 10 Myths about Evolution.
Click the monkey if you wanna check out more.

The book is available at Amazon.com for only $11.90,
at Amazon Canada for only $10.95,
and at Amazon UK for only £6.74.

I like "myth busting" and generally hacking away at pseudoscience, creationism,
intelligent design, paranormal claims, and other forms of ridiculous hoodoo shmoodoo.

You can visit my website to find out more about me.

Read an interview with me and my co-author at Skepchick Magazine.
It's in three parts.
Part1
Part2
Part3

Here's a link to an article I co-wrote for Skeptical Inquirer magazine called
Getting the Monkey off Darwin's Back: Four Common Myths about Evolution.

Here's a PDF of a short article I co-wrote for Playboy, called
Four Myths about Darwin's Theory: And Why They Are Wrong.

Here's another PDF of an article I co-wrote for The Writer Magazine called
5 Tips For Writing Popular Science.

And here's a Feature article I wrote for The Secular Web called
Five Bad Evolutionary Designs

I was a keynote speaker at the Center for Inquiry-Florida conference in
St. Petersburg, Florida, April 20-22, 2007.
My presentation was titled Quashing the Myth: Evolution is Immoral.
Other speakers included Victor J. Stenger, author of the bestseller
God: the Failed Hypothesis, psychology professor Elaine M. Hull, and others. ______________________________________________________________________________________

Who I'd like to meet:

Thomas Henry Huxley. Also known as "Darwin's bulldog" for his vigorous and outspoken support of Darwin's idea. Too bad he's dead. Where's the wayback machine when you need one? They don't make sideburns like those anymore!

Kanzi the Bonobo Chimpanzee. The ape at the brink of the human mind. He communicates using a sort of keyboard with symbols. Quite a smart fellow. Click the pic to see more photos of Kanzi.

My evil twin. Now THAT would be weird.

It is written in the Talmud, “Whosoever saves a life has saved the world entire” [Sanhedrin 4:8 (37a)].

What, then, can be said of a man whose life work was directly responsible for abating world hunger, and saving the lives of ONE BILLION?

Such a man was Norman Borlaug (March 25, 1914 – September 12, 2009), Father of the Green Revolution.

Combining a powerful intellect, vigorous determination, and unrelenting compassion, Norman Borlaug dedicated his entire life - until the end of his days - to spreading revolutionary agricultural innovations that have saved the world countless times over: a singular, unparalleled distinction.

It is one distinction he wished us, he challenged us to repeat again.

May he rest in peace.

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And then one fine morning—
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

Wow. If you could pull any strings, that'd be great. As a student, I'm not in a position to afford the entry fee. Tobi from the PSU A+ Forum is representing CFI On Campus - along with Sylvia from CFI Portland and Laura Becker from Amherst presenting on CFI as a whole. The board elected me in late February and I'm a little late to the game as far as preparation for the conference. If you're interested, Laura from the CFI "home base" is speaking the next day in Portland. I can get you details if you'd like to attend.
