About me:
THE LATEST CRITICAL ACCLAIM FOR MY CD!
Here's what the February 27th Issue of GOLDMINE has to say about me and my CD;
Though the outside world discovered Seattle’s music scene when the grunge bands broke through in the early ‘90s, the groups hadn’t sprung up overnight; both Mudhoney and Pearl Jam had their roots in the seminal outfit Green River, for example.
Even further back was an early ‘80s Seattle punk band with the then-outrageous name The Fags, headed up by Charles Gerra aka ‘Upchuck” one of the few Seattle performers who emphasized rock’s theatricality as much as the power of electric guitars. This compilations which collects tracks from his many bands, was a labor of love for producer Dennis White, who managed to track down tapes that had been long-forgotten.
The music is rooted in the ‘80s but ranges over a variety of styles. “Jacuzzi Fluzzi” is propulsive new wave; “Lock You Up” is the kind of dramatic number that that manages to touch on prog rock and punk rock. Songs by Gerra’s band Such are the most developed, with a clear pop sensibility, making them more accessible while still retaining an edge, underscored by Gerra’s deep Bowie-esque vocals.
Gerra died in 1990 of AIDS-related causes, but he left more than must his own musical legacy. Many of the musicians
Gerra worked with went on to work with other notable names: Ben Ireland drumming fro Sky Cries Mary; Paul Solger performing with Jayne County and Mark Lanegan; and Gordon Raphael producing The Strokes*. This is a welcome release that gives people a greater insight into lesser-known aspects of Seattle’s music history.

*Other Gerra collaborators include noted hip-hop producer Shlomo Sonneneld, who first presented MC Lyte to the world, and Barbara Ireland who is currently recording and touring with Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard.

THE RETURN OF THE BAT
Specimen will bring their special brand of glam mayhem, The Batcave to London again.
After last year’s wildly-successful 25th anniversary Batcave event, The Batcave returns to its original spawning ground of London’s West End on Sunday July 19 for another night of blasphemy, lechery and blood.
Specimen (Fresh from a fantastic show at Leipzig’s Waves Gotik festival), the original Batcave instigators will headline the lurid frolics at the Embassy Club, (29 Old Burlington St, London W1S3AP) Also on the bill are original Batcavers Sexbeat, with DJs Hamish and Cavey Nick, cavorting from decks to decadence with the usual brutal, trouser-dropping surprises & suitably confronting & barbaric entertainment.
The 2009 Batcave will feature installations from exciting new artists of the ‘Dark London Underground’ and visuals from the upcoming ‘Welcome To The Batcave’ book, along with this year’s bitcrushed message from the creature in t
