Traditionally: "Henry Fool", "Pulp Fiction", "O'Brother Where Art Thou", "The Great Dictator," "Adaptation"
Movie genre I'm not proud that I love: Sports movies.
Television
"The Daily Show", "The Office", "Family Guy", anything on the History Channel, and "Dog:The Bounty Hunter"...don't you judge me!
Books
This is the toughest category for me because one of the biggest draw backs in being a writer is that it is almost impossible to read a book simply out of enjoyment. I constantly judge and critique every book I read, looking for strengths and weaknesses that I can learn from for my own writing. The books and authors that I grew the most reading are: "Glue" by Irvine Welsh for his engaging voice, William Shakespeare for his colorful and lively characters, Victor Hugo for his incredible sense of scope and purpose, Oscar Wilde for his wit, Jane Austin for her humanity and Dante for his imagination. I also really dig John Steinbeck and when I close my eyes and dream really hard, I can write something as complex and charming as "Cannery Row."
Heroes
My wife kicks ass, and has some kick ass shoe designs. You can check them out at www.skiptheopeningact.com-you can never plug to much, right?

About me: I'm a freelance writer who has worked in various aspects of journalism and fiction. I am currently writing for the Oklahoma Gazette. I find arts and entertainment one of the most engaging areas I have covered.
One of the advantages of working in the arts is that I can engage others who are working in creative fields and experience the passion they hold for their work. Even if their medium is far removed from my own, that creative drive is contagious and experiencing other peoples' art makes me a stronger writer.
The end goal is to support myself solely through my fiction works, but I've found that the strict guidelines in journalism help me improve the structure and style of my creative endeavors. I just published a book called "the dominant hand." Its now available on my Web site, www.skiptheopeningact.com via paypal or up on Amazon.com. There are also an increasing number of book stores including Barnes and Noble and Borders. If your local bookstore doesn't carry it, have them order it through Ingram.
Here's a video of my first reading at Book Beat featuring Pseudodance Theatre and the music of Simple Tree. My readings have evolved quite a bit, but I still like this one.
Who I'd like to meet: Practically, I'm always looking for musicians and artists locally who I can feature, and this summer I'll be looking for people to buy my book so I don't bankrupt the family. I really just love talking to people about art in general, and I hope that there are people out there that will engage in my work as much as I engage in others.

You did an amazing job promoting Literati. It was a great day and I know everybody who attended or was a part of it is grateful to you for all the work you put into it. Thank you for the kind words in your inscription. I have nothing but love for you and Karen and the boys! Anyway...GREAT job on Literati and thanks again for being one of the most dependable and creative people I know.
Sorry I didn't make it out. I had a bday cookout to attend and went to bed fairly early. Give me a call or whatnot and let's meet for coffee sometime...earlier than bar hours preferably! haha
Oh no! It sounds fantastically entertaining, but I will be around the likes of Shrevport, LA camping on Saturday...it doesn't seem as though our schedules have been the best of friends lately! We need to grab some coffee and catch up one of these evenings while Van is still with her dad and while I am still in town. haha.
