Charleston Sarjeant is a steel panist ("steel drummer") in New England with nearly 14 years of experience on the scene. At 21 years of age, Charleston is a veteran musician. He was taught and mentored by his mother Debra ("Sista D") and grandfather Denzil Botus, two legendary steel panist, from a very young age. He has established his own distinct brand of calypso as he prides himself in not only continuing the tradition, but to put his own stamp on it. Charleston believes highly in his music "telling a story" and if you take a listen, you will understand the concept.
Charleston was one of the youngest steel band leaders in the country as Director of Pan United. Pan United won 2nd place at Boston's J'Ouvert competition as director in 2001, 2002 and 2005. 'Pan United Entertainment' for most of the 2000's an icon in New England's steel band scene.
He plays with the Dis N Dat Band, being one of the longest players in that band (9 years). "Chunk" (Charleston nickname / gimmick in Dis-N-Dat), recently enjoyed touring with the band this past summer and working on their album Black Sheep.
Charleston is currently in the studio working on his first solo CD, "Big Time". Big Time features a variety of calypso styles. Tracks on this page are uncut, unmixed studio tracks of some of the songs on the CD. Due to a family emergency, the release of 'Big Time' was pushed into the summer, but rest assured that the 'Big Time' will be here!
