Selection Process
The Charleston Civil Service Commission will conduct an examination to establish an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer. The next examination will be in the Spring of 2010. Candidates must present a valid driver’s license to gain entrance to the exam. To participate in the selection process each candidate must submit an application, possess a valid driver’s license, be a U.S. citizen, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be at least 18 years of age at the time of application. Applicants must complete and pass the physical ability exam, written examination, a background investigation to include a truth verification examination and neighborhood interviews, psychological examination, drug screen, medical examination, reference check, oral interview, as well as a fingerprint, employment and criminal history check.
