   Charlie's Blurbs
About me:
I am a painter who sees my art as "Art Povera meets Baroque". Fifties clock surrounds become haloes and driftwood is transformed into wings. I am a painter who gives discarded everyday objects and furniture another life as unique wall pieces. The mundane history of those found objects is transcended by rich oil paintings of beautiful male figures into something glorious, sensual and disturbingly religious. My concern involves the inner workings of the mind and attempts to portray the passions of the soul on the faces I paint. You might want to call it "Contemporary Baroque", but one thing very certain in my works, there is nothing conceptual, nothing minimal, all about luscious colour and sensational creativity.
Who I'd like to meet:
Fellow creatives, professionals working in the arts and contacts for exhibition space and of course buyers of fine arts.

Although I quit celebrating birthdays ages ago, that’s not to say that I’m not able to wish anyone, still young enough to celebrate, a Happy One (pick your own definition of “one”). And may you have many more.

Sigh! -Another Christmas. --Another holiday season of waiting (looks like in vain) for Santa to turn up with that portrait of me done "by Charlie" for my ARTISTS "DO" author WILLIAM MALTESE collection. --Like last year (and the year before?), I shall survive, only bearly (barely?). --Which doesn't keep me from wishing you every enjoyable moment possibly milked from this upcoming holiday season (or from whatever). --ciao, buddy! --William.

Charlie. --In case I forget (senility setting in, don't ya know?!), that very special day of yours just up the way (the 26th, is it?), have a Happy Birthday and have a delicious piece (of cake) on me (well, not physically on me, although if you'd ask nicely...). --William.

Charlie, my man. --No need to worry about me brooding overly long about my by Charlie-Pi-portrait-due, in that I'm a firm believer that some of the really truly great things in life are a long time in coming (hmmmmmm!). --And, here's certainly wishing you great success, as regards your September showing at the Red Gate Gallery! You do know that if I was going to be anywhere near London at the time, they (who are "they" anyway?) couldn't keep me away with a team of wild horses. PROMETHEAN FIRE, as a show name, is a real show-stopper! --You just keep getting more and more famous, my man, which will make my portrait an even more important (and an even more expensive piece of artwork) when I finally get it. --Give 'em hell, buddy! --William.

Okay Charlie! --Where in the hell is that long-awaited portrait of me as St. Sebastian (with the use of chopsticks)? I mean, I can only hold my breath so damned long (was I always this particular shade of blue?). --Or, what about that project where you were going to immortalize all of your myspace.com friends (even the not-so-handsome ones)? --Inquiring mind would like to know. --Seriously, buddy, what in the hell are you up to these days, besides conjuring great works of art (alas, alack, minus myself as subject matter), and having successful shows from this end of the galaxy to the next. --Stop in occasionally and say hi. --As for I, well I finally finished that collaborative novel, ARDENNIAN BOY, about the French poets Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine. Now, if I can just get my anal-retentive collaborator (love ya, Wayne!) to agree on the cover and the text thereon, the book might actually reach the book stands before Christmas. --Thinking about you (obviously), William.

Charlie. --Well, what good fortune to be able to hook up on myspace! --I won't go into raves about what I think about your artwork, in that I think you probably already know. Oh, hell, it does bear repeating that it's great, so... "Charlie your artwork is justs fanastic!" --My continued best wishes for fame an fortune (not necessarily, unfortunately, always one and the same thing). --Much success! --William.
