“If ever a visual artist and technically astounding guitarist were to collide it would be here. Intense, fragile – this could stop anybody in their tracks.”Sheffield Telegraph
"Charlie Beresford, painter, vocalist, and acoustic guitar master, uses all of his talents here to create a fourteen song set of seemingly small tunes of loss and growing, edgy anger, that upon repeated listens sound epic in their own way. This cinematic richness is due in no small factor to the help he gets from Tim Harries on bass and Mark Emerson on violin and accordion. They help center Beresford’s guitar in a jagged and moody space. So while tunes like "The Tide That Pushed Away" and "If Only" sound fragile and restrained initially, they blossom into something dark and beautiful. "I Let You Walk With Me" manages to sound comforting and sinister at once, a sure sign of genius. Beresford’s playing is restrained but biting on that chain to be let loose. Like contemporary murder ballads, though with hints of saving grace, this record comes from a room that is far from empty." musicemissions.com
"Charlie Beresford blends elements of folk and haunting, contemplating pop into a brooding sonic mixture. Its unplugged beauty at its best. Not only Beresford voice, but also the way he sings is truly fascinating and compelling." funprox.com
"the variety of little episodes populating this album is remarkable ......it shows there’s no fear of experimenting in the musicians, which injects a conspicuous dose of interest in the listener. In fact, the melodic hints are quite scattered, following no schemes at all, and the largest part of the work is built around harmonious successions of little fragments, cemented together with great sensibility, while some bitter sweet tales unfold." (Gianfri) Darklife ezine.
'this is as close to a work of genius as you will find in this day and age" Whisperin and Hollering
"Small emotional pieces with big effect......a real pearl" Terrorverlag Germany
"a beautiful, enchanting one-of-a-kind work of art" DPRP Holland
"He shrugs off comparisons and attacks the under belly of soulful pop........“The Room Is Empty” is a decent album of haunting melodies and dashing downtrodden tempos." smother.net
I spent my formative years in Coventry, (the Detroit of the UK to give our US brothering an image). The city that brought the world 'The Specials' and Sir Frank Whittle (the father of jet propulsion). Trained in Fine Art at Falmouth in the early nineties. Started a mobile recording business specifically for the recording of acoustic works about 13 years ago alongside writing and performing.
My last record 'The Room is Empty' ended up badgering the CMJ music charts in the US for 9 weeks and got licensed to a number of TV shows in the US on MTV and Oxygen... it has also been licensed to the news and documentaries department of MTV USA. I've written film scores for a number of short films as well as engineered and mixed for the likes of, June Tabor, Topic Records, Smooth Operations, BBC, CBS, Soundtree, Joel Harries, Gillie Nicholls, Les Barker............
I use guitars made by the great Michael Ritchie based in Scotland (google him you won't regret it)
I'm now based on the border between England and Wales, an area of untamed beauty that mankind has no hope of fully taming thank god.
Over the last 7 years I have recorded 4 albums, "Smiles and Fists", "505", and the latest "The Room is Empty". The 4th "Dark Transport" a record I have made with Tim Harries will be out very soon....

I'm doing pretty dandy, thank you. Life is so full of ups and downs and busy busy busyness....I'm always trying to escape the loud, but I'll succeed in that this in a few days as I'm heading out to the wood for a bit. ALWAYS good to run away to the woods from time to time, hey?
Than you for accepting our friend request!! Really appreciate it. Wish you an awesome and rocking weekend! =) Very best regards from Norway and Merlin’s Company!

wow.. hey.. been a long time.. You know, in the mid 90s I had a wonderful experience in the Breacon Becons (pardon a very possible mis-spelling)... I loved it.. and can recall all colors and smells just like that.. I am doing ok thanks.. some days really wonderful and others a little more harsh, but all in all I must say I think I am getting closer to a more pleasant path.. And you? Your record spinns here too at times and you are on my mind..
Dear friends, I am playing a free gig at the beauteous Union Chapel, Islington this Saturday. The sunlight will be streaming through its vaulted windows as Blank Canvas and Arctic Circle present this gig during the blessed daylight hours of 12-2. And yea shall it's hallowed interior be filled with all manner of scraping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Let us pray. And then let us go to the pub.
Oooh that's a haunting voice you have going on there Mr.Beresford.Quite unexpected that was i'll tell thee. Good day to you too sir. Enjoying the summer? (fingers crossed and toes crossed)
hey! sorry i haven't been in touch. the artwork is almost finished and looks wonderful. should be done by monday. i need to give you a call to talk about lettering etc, i thought maybe that could be done in the computer so i dont risk scrawling on the original art and making a mistake. could you email the specs on how you want the pictures scanned? hope you're well. Slow but steady. Looking forward to the fast approaching mix. I've also been doing a record with my other band which is sounding pretty cool so far, might even have some rough mixes to bring along to play you. Hows things in your neck of the woods?
