   About Charlie Brumley

PRESS

"Ambition can be a curse, especially in young artists, but it's to Charlie Brumley's credit that his band, the Educated Guess, makes good on its big dreams."
- Christian Schaeffer, Riverfront Times

"...very young, musically ambitious tunesmiths. This guy Charlie Brumley...[has] got some real talent."
- Steve Pick, KDHX 88.1 Sound Salvation

"Composing a rock oratorio is no slight task. Charlie Brumley, leader of St. Louis band The Educated Guess, goes all the way on his latest effort dubbed West Skyline Drive...you get sucked into the story."
- Hans Werksman, Here Comes the Flood

"...Brumley's knack for big-sky arrangements and E Street-indebted piano-playing make him a young artist worth watching."
- Christian Schaeffer, Riverfront Times

BIO

Charlie Brumley is a St. Louis musician who has been writing and playing piano for 12 years. In 2006, he formed The Educated Guess, composing, arranging, and producing three albums to date, including 2006's Daunted Soul EP and 2007's Beautiful Strangers. Their most recent record, West Skyline Drive, was released to modest critical acclaim while having also been nominated by the Riverfront Times Music Awards for Best Album.

During production of West Skyline Drive, Brumley was responsible for the formation of the twelve piece Emperor Norton Orchestra, also working closely with renowned engineer J. Christopher Hughes and St. Louis' very own Smith/Lee Productions for recording of the award-nominated project. Brumley's works feature a wide array of contributions from talented musicians all across the Midwest--including veteran steel player Scott Swartz--which played a key role in executing West Skyline Drive's string, brass, and choral arrangements.

This summer, Charlie Brumley will begin scoring Jørgen Pedersen's upcoming film "Waking Up," slated for release in 2010. He is currently studying under the direction of classical concert pianist Groff Bittner, and will be debuting a new vocal work this Fall at the Lindenwood University Dance Concert.
