  • Bio

Charlie is an entertainer, a full time working musician who stays busy almost every night of the week. He is a native of Minnesota and lives on a horse boarding farm north of St. Cloud with his wife Bev and family. He is a man of a thousand songs a master of most of the roots genres of American music. He is a prolific songwriter and a great interpreter of other people songs. He plays guitar, harmonica on a rack, stomps on a box and a tambourine with his feet and also plays a mean blues kazoo. He is currently in production for his fifth CD of original music. His last CD “Tavern Puzzles” featured the likes of Sam Bush, Michael Bland and other great session musicians. He enjoys his work of making people happy and sometimes sad. "Music has always been and will always be my focus. From age 12 till now I have learned thousands of songs and I think that has helped me as a songwriter. I always try to play from my heart and sing from my soul. It is a gift that I don’t take for granted. I know I have helped heal some folks with my songs" Charlie Roth ..Troubadour...... .. .. .. .. .. .. ......Add to My Profile.. | ..More Videos.. ..Believe By Charlie Roth...... .. .. .. .. .. .. ......Add to My Profile.. | ..More Videos..

mostly just me Professor Foot and Harry the Harp..I sing and play acoustic guitar ..I also play harmonica on a rack and with my feet I stomp a box with a microphone in it and a tamborine..I am also a virtuoso on the kazoo.. I can make an awful lot of racket as a solo act but I love to jam and I am essentially a band player and when the stars line up just right I get to play with my record producer Andy Dee, slide guitar, lap steel.. Kurt Lightnin' Rodman, guitar... Billy Thommes, drums... Chris Stone, keys or bass... Al Stumpf, drums... Al Bergstrom, bass... Kevin Lange, bass... Paul "Stretch" Diethelm, guitar

When I was a kid we had KDWB AM out of the twin cities it was the sound track to my childhood it was the sixties and seventies and it was a great time for music, very creative. It seemed to me that I was affected more deeply than some others by what I was hearing, certain songs seemed to change my molecular structure. When you are young you are less jaded about music, you are soaking it up like a baby putting new creases in your brain and discovering what you like, it affects you deeply. That is still happening to me to a certain extent with some of the Americana singer songwriters that I meet at Kerrville and who are touring through my town. Every once in awhile a song will just knock me out and I have that old feeling back most of the time it is at a live show with just one person and one guitar or in a song circle around a campfire. In some cases I grab my own guitar and learn the song. With me it is more about the lyrics but the melody has to be strong as well. You can still find great music but for the most part it is not on the mainstream radio. These are some of the people who changed my life by bumping my style certain ways when I was learning how to be myself, they were my school..John Prine, Townes Van Zant, Waylon Jennings, Jesse Winchester, Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons, Joanie Mitchell, Steve Earle, Merle Haggard, Lefty Frizzel, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, James Brown, Greg Brown, Jackson Browne, Ray Charles, CSNY, The Eagles, The Beatles, Amazing Rhythm Aces, Pure Prairie League, David Bromberg, Hoyt Axton, Muddy Waters, Carlos Santana, Johnny Winter, Allman Brothers, Emmy Lou Harris, New Grass Revival, Creedence Clearwater Revival, George Jones, John Lee Hooker, The Animals, The Dave Clark Five, James Taylor, Jerry Jeff Walker, Tom Waits, many others, ...these are some of the singer songwriters who continue to inspire me; Ray Bonneville, Slaid Cleaves, Fred Eaglesmith, Lucy Kapansky, Bill Staines, Dave Moore, Jerry Rau, Joe Price, Jonathan Byrd, Greg Kylma, David Glaser, Karen Mal, David Stoddard, Matt Harlan, Elam Blackman, Noah Earle, Steve Fisher, Steve Brooks, Stephanie Davis, Anais Mitchell, Bill Pasalacqua, Effron White, the Ginn Sisters many others..My advice is not to allow yourself to get stuck in the music of your youth and stop growing. Give some new songwriters a try. There are too many people at the company party or at the bar who only want to hear the same old tired songs. Music it the essence of life and can make you feel more alive..
