About me: On a warm spring night in May 2002, in a little bar on Conkling St. in Baltimore, Maryland, a new breed of performer was born...suave meets redneck, blue collar meets gay boy, gigolo meets farm boy, hip hop meets leather daddy...all of these forces combined formed what could only be called...
The Charm City Boys!!!
In May 2007, The Charm City Boys will be celebrating their five year anniversary. Baltimore’s premier drag king troupe has traveled to many places and grown in size exponentially since their first show in 2002 to over 30 regular performers today. For the past five years the Charm City Boys have produced a monthly at Gallagher’s in Canton, and even though the bar is closing it's doors we are going to try and continue that tradition at a new venue!
In addition to these monthly shows, CCB has traveled far and wide bringing their own breed of drag performers. The troupe has performed at the International Drag King Extravaganza (IDKE) showcases in Columbus, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; and Austin, Texas. They have performed in three Great Big International Drag King Show, both at the Black Cat and more recently at the 9:30 club in Washington, DC. Members have been guest performers at the University of Arizona in Tucson, at Hollins University in Roanoke Virginia, and closer to home at Towson, Johns Hopkins, and Loyola University. Their next big performance is on May 19 at the 7th Annual Great Big International Drag King Show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.
In November of 2003, the troupe donated their talents and time for a drag show benefiting a local non-profit, Best Buddies, raising over $1,300 for the organization. Charm City have in the past been spotted performing at the Hippo during Night of the Gods and at Coconuts Bar and Grill. They have regularly performed with the DC Kings’ shows at Apex and Club Chaos, including the recent “Best of the Best” show, filmed by National Geographic. They have also been the subject of a documentary film.
The boys have strutted their stuff at the past few Baltimore Pride festivities. They have won Best Overall Float for their rainbow luau theme in 2003, and performed in the evening’s Block party along with performing at the Drag Stage on Sunday in the park. The Charm City Boys have received media attention in the past with a cover article in Outloud, Baltimore’s GLBT newspaper, and a story in the Baltimore Sun.
SHE Productions & Grand Central Present The 2nd Annual NYE Bash RESOLUTION December 31st from 9pm til ??? $10 gets you access to both Central & Sapphos with music on both floors by DJ Image and Deejay Arturo!! Dress as casual or as fancy as you like and make sure to arrive early to avoid lines and guarantee admission as there will be no advance tickets sold to this event. SHE Productions Presents REHAB the 2nd Saturday of EVERY Month! This months REHAB is VERY special as DJ KRISTEN is back in town to dj for one night only so don't miss it!! Grand Central boasts a fantastic dance floor and sound for the ultimate club experience or you can head upstairs to Sapphos to sit on the couches, play pool, chill on the deck!
