are currently recording a version of I Bet you Look Good on the Dancefloor by the Artic Monkeys (preview on www.thespacelounge.com/chaz.htm )which quotes Umbrella Man, a song made famous here by Flanigan & Allen. Here is version by Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong - Dizzy is such a funny man
Television

Books
I've just read the Alan Clark Diaries, which are, I have to admit, compulsive reading, despite the fact he openly acknowledges his fascist sympathies. The antidote is Robert Fisk's magnificent The Great War For Civilisation - the Conquest of the Middle East - chapter and verse on the disgusting behaviour of the state of Isreal - and an illuminating chapter on arms dealing (see Basildon Hood)
Heroes
Thucidides, Johnny Cash, Ken Loach,Nina Simone,Dizzy Gillespie, Michael Eavis,, John Coltrane, James Brown and loads of other people I've never met.

Jamie Muir again. This is a YouTube of him playing with King Crimson in 1972. In the late 60s and eearly 70s I used to drive him around - him and the bands he was in - the amazing Boris (with Don Weller among others) and MIC with Evan Parker and Derek Bailey. When he joined King Crimson I went to see him and asked him what Bruford was like. At this period Bruford, recently out of Yes, I think, was credited with being one of the top technical drummers in the country. Muir said, "oh he's a really nice guy - terrible drummer, but really nice. If you watch this video you see how completely under Muir's spell Bruford is. Why, if you had Muir would you want another drummer. Mystifying.

I was referring to the pagan mid-winter fest - colonised and sanitised by Christians down the years, re-invented by the 19C Germans and Brits, and culminating in the execrable communal frenzy we suffer each year... which, as you suggest, exists largely to feed the voracious appetite of business for the financial enslavement of the populace.
(Immediate deletion of this contrived drivel is strongly recommended. )
