   About Chase Gassaway

Originally located in Arlington, TX, Chase moved to Abilene, TX in 2003 to study music composition and theory at Hardin-Simmons University. Having formally only worked under other efforts as a hired gun, it wasn’t until then that he pursued his solo career in music.

Studying under Dr. Bernard Scherr, Chase polished his chops as a composer, creating works for a variety of ensembles ranging from chamber groups, choir, percussion ensembles to full orchestra.

He studied classical guitar privately under Dan Mitchell for 3 years and voice with Dr. Kecia Ashford for 2 years, but has been seen performing a variety of things on stage including – electric/acoustic guitar, keys, bass, percussion, harmonica, accordion, bells, and trombone.

His first commercial release of original music was the Black As My Coffee EP in 2005 featuring his songs and his first stab at studio orchestration. The resulting five tunes were released digitally the same year on iTunes and most other digital media stores.

Since that record he has been fortunate to work on many other projects as both a player and orchestrator:

Becky Middleton – The Late Night Huckins Sessions (2005) – acoustic guitar
Brad MilesCloser Than Ever (2005) – string orchestration
Philip CreamerThis Fair Fiasco (2005) – string orchestration, piano
Becky MiddletonRepercussions EP (2006) – string orchestration, acoustic guitar, production
Johnny Lloyd Rollins Lets Be Poor Together (2006) – string/brass/winds orchestration
BranchThe Side Effects Of Seeing (2007) – string orchestration
The Resonate Band - portrait (2007) – electric guitar, bells
Look To The SkyOur March To April (2008) – guitar production
Eleisha EagleNeither Here Nor There (2009) – brass/wind orchestration
Grace PettisGrace Pettis (2009) – background vocals

While on tour in 2007 he stayed in the home of Brian Pilton, formerly of The Moldy Peaches, and after a long night of song swapping and tea recorded the acoustic project “Mexican Tea” which was released as a free download. That following summer, after a tour through Europe, he recorded “Across The Ocean” in his home studio and it was also released as a free download.

In 2009, he and his wife, Kassie, moved to Austin, TX, where he is the composer in residence and multi-instrumentalist for Riverbend Church. He is the full time keyboardist for Nathan Hubble, and co-founder of Naked Folk, an association of local songwriters who perform regularly together, with Lamar Stockton.

Oh hey CHAAAAAASE. It's good to hear from you. You know, funny thing is that there is some incredible string work on those songs. As a matter of fact, i believe a mutual friend of ours orchestrated it.
How are you?
