The indie buzz bands are doing it, the emo buzz bands are doing it, current and ex-members of Glassjaw are doing it (and in two different bands!)... Yes, kids, disco is officially cool again, but only on the following conditions; a. the guitars must rock, and b. the frontman's haircut must be as sharp as a quip by Jimmy Carr about peeling lemons with razorblades. Thank f*ck for Chaser then, who are at least attempting to put a human face on musical element more usually accompanied by clinical distance and cooler than thou posturing. Kick off track '...Other Side (Riot)' slots nicely into the gap The Killers have left for the moment, its driving keyboards creating just the right kind of eighties wash that goes with cool kids on the dancefloor - to the extent that you can't help but pity poor Chaser. If it was five months earlier, they'd be bloody massive by now. The usual comparisons the P!ATD will come with their sonic eclecticness, yet unlike their innevitable peers, there are moments of bare, yet heart-warming honesty like cold piano of 'The Race Is On', or the immersive guitar/synth washes of 'On The Second Glance'. In the same moments they also sidestep the usual landmines of simply throwing in synths for the sake of it, blending the sounds together with subtle harmonies on 'Headlights and Traintracks'. While the likes of 'Red Paint' retain that tight funk of their peers, there's still an emotional subtlety that carries in Callum Hayes and Dan Davies harmonies, something that's distinctly unstaged, and maybe more akin to the likes of Adzuki than the more obvious comparisons would suggest - and this is what makes them really intriguing. A synth band of this nature capable of true emotional subtlety without the plastic feeling of theatrical display; Chaser can make the scene kids move their feet, and maybe even break their hearts in the same breath. Now that would be truly worth losing your cool for.

LIVE REVIEWS
'Such is the exuberance of youth, wild slam dancing and windmilling are already in full flow courtesy of the DJ even before opening act Chaser have put one foot onstage. Fears of the sharply dressed quartet being too lightweight for this bill are quickly debunked as they expertly work the teenage crowd into even more of a frenzy by way of their P!ATD meets The Killers disco-rock hybrid. With more hooks than the national fishing convention and sugar-coated harmonies that would make Fall Out Boy red with envy, it's fair to say that if Chaser hailed from Orange County instead of Winchester, they'd already be gracing our TV screens on a regular basis.'
