Billy Wilcosky (singer/guitarist - version 1.0 & 2.0) Ryan Enloe (lead guitarist - version 1.0) Cris Cortes (drummer - version 1.0 & 2.0) Adam Davenport (bassist - version 1.0 & 2.0) Paul Weissert (bassist - version 1.0)
In the summer of 2004 three college students decided to take a History course without knowing that just a few months later they would start one of the greatest bands Atlanta, GA had ever seen! One day, before this History class, Billy Wilcosky met Ryan Enloe and just a few months after that the two brought guitars to a church and began to play. That night, music rang from the halls of that church like never before and almost instantaneously, the two knew that they had to share this music with the world, and what better way to do this than to start a band...
Cris Cortes was also in this History class and had already met Ryan, so Ryan knew that he played the drums. One day the three met up, Billy and Ryan with acoustic guitars and Cris on the drums, and they jammed for the first time. From there, everything just fell into place. They had a drummer (Cris Cortes), a lead guitarist (Ryan Enloe) and a singer/guitarist (Billy Wilcosky)... and so Chasing Katie was born... sometime very early in 2005.
Billy, Ryan and Cris practiced and played a few small shows with no bass player, but there was no bottom end... no BOOM... they knew that they couldn't go on forever without a bass player. But, luckily, fate was on their side. While playing a house party they met a guy who just happened to play bass, and play it very well... Paul Weissert. Finally the band was complete!
Chasing Katie went on to play several large venues in Atlanta that year, such as, the Masquerade, 10 high and Vinyl. Sadly, around the beginning of 2006 or maybe it was the end of 2005... anyway, Paul Weissert, who helped the band find their sound and also helped them get such big shows like the one at the Masquerade, had to leave the band to start a new career. So, quickly, the search was on for a new bassist. Fliers were hung, auditions were held, and out of all the bassists that auditioned, there was only one that not only played well, but also fit with the other member's personalities. That bassist was Adam Davenport. Right before Paul left, however, Chasing Katie released their first and only full length album, "Holt Road".
The band wrote some new material and continued to play shows all over Atlanta and the surrounding cities like Marietta and Athens. Everything was going great, they were part of a small label and were gaining new fans daily. However, near the end of 2006, the band member that no one thought would leave, had to... Ryan wanted to move on to other things, plus he was planning on moving a fairly good distance away from the band's practice space. Billy, Cris and Adam were planning on continuing at this time, but, Billy decided that he wanted to finish up college and at the time thought that maybe it was time for him to move on as well... so the band officially split apart for the first time.
At the end of 2008, Billy and Cris met up and started talking about the band and how they missed playing music. They knew that Ryan couldn't re-join because of the long distance, however, they wanted to give Chasing Katie another shot. So after jamming for a few Saturdays, they officially re-launched Chasing Katie in 2009. A new bassist was found because at the time Adam couldn't re-join. One show was played at a venue called Swayze's on April 18, 2009. The show went fairly well, however, Billy and Cris just didn't mesh well with this new bass player. They were able to get Adam back into the band the day after this show and rented some practice space and began preparing for the come back of CK...
For about three months Billy, Cris and Adam practiced... they were working on some new music and started talking about booking more shows. However, the personal lives of the band got in the way... all three members were working full time and had other responsibilities that prevented them from being able to give the band 100%. Plus the practice space they were renting wasn't really working out and they had no other place to practice. At the end of June 2009, Chasing Katie went on break once again.
Again, the band didn't officially break up, just went on break, however, the break may turn into a permanent break... but, you never know.
CK's album called "Holt Road" is out on iTunes and various other online music stores. But, you can download it a lot cheaper and in different formats by going to chasingkatie.bandcamp.com. You can also download, for free, a collection of rare CK acoustic tracks at this same bandcamp.com site. The rare acoustic tracks come in the form of an album called "Stripped". Some of them are songs you'll hear on "Holt Road", however, some are rare songs you may of never heard... Enjoy!
