My name is Tony Hart-Wilden, I am from Winchester, England and have been investigating the paranormal for many years in the U.K, the United States and throughout Europe. I currently reside in New York, U.S.A, but will be relocating to Las Vegas in July. I work alone.
Introduction
My goal is to attempt to capture a full apparition on digital film, it is a destination that I may never reach; the real adventure is the journey there. "A good paranormal investigator is judged by the evidence they don't post".I don’t believe Orbs are paranormal; that mist is ectoplasm, streaks of light are spirits of the dead, or ghosts appear as faces halfway up walls or hidden in trees.
There is no evidence that apparitions only come out at night or require darkness to manifest, this is just misinformation based on horror movies and scare stories told around camp fires not on legitimate scientific research. You should investigate at anytime day or night, and alone if you choose, photographic evidence is the best collaborative witness.
Being able to reproduce an event photographic or otherwise doesn’t automatically invalidate its legitimacy. Reproduction is just the start of photo analysis not where it ends.
Question everything
The majority of psychics and mediums are either frauds or delusional, it's their responsibility to prove they are not. Most are are just cold readers that prey on the desperate and gullible. Using a psychic on an investigation to provide proof of the paranormal while they haven’t provided proof of their own abilities is neither scientific nor logical.
Eliminate the improbable
E.M.F meters, and digital thermometers are not ghost detectors. The amount of equipment you have is irrelevant if you don’t know how to use it or interpret the results. Ouija boards are not “portals to hell” they are inanimate objects. Retro fitting E.V.P.S by directing people to listen for what you believe they should hear would invalidate them in any other field of research. Clutching at “paranormal straws” simply provides ammunition for an already skeptical public.
An object moving by itself, an unexplained voice caught on tape or even a photograph of a ghost, they have other possible origins aside from being a manifestation of a dead person. They could originate from the living including those that witnessed or recorded them, and these events could also just be an as yet unexplained aspect of science. If you don’t consider equal or more likely possibilities in regard to their origin and attempt to find a definitive link between the occurrence and its source instead of making an assumption, then you are not following scientific protocol. Automatically attributing anything paranormal to that of a dead person to fit in with your beliefs, isn’t an investigative process, it’s just adapting the evidence to a pre determined decision you have already made.
Paranormal investigation should have no spiritual agenda, and there should be no overlap with any "New Age" religions, philosophies or practices. Protection rituals and exorcisms are just psychological tools. Demons don’t exist except in the minds of those that fabricated them.If there is life after death it’s a biological process not a metaphysical one.
Choose your side
Although we may have many of the same objectives, we are not all on the same side in our methods to prove them.If you fail to question the false claims made by the paranormal community, you are nothing more then a “paranormal enabler”, as responsible for their propagation as those that originated them.
While we should attempt to adhere to scientific standards and protocols, it should be recognized that error, deception and bias exists within the scientific community as in any other, and that science is not infallible, nor is it beyond question.
Investigation isn't about accommodating ever theory or incident; no matter how weak or questionable it is, so that you have more evidence. It's about dismissing it until what remains is only the most credible, even if as a consequence you have nothing.
Genuine paranormal phenomena are extremely rare, crying wolf with evidence that isn’t genuine, simply undermines your credibility in the event that you do obtain what could be considered legitimate proof. Claiming that you use scientific investigation methods does not mean that you do, you have to understand what they are and then apply them. You shouldn’t try to prove or disprove, neither approach is correct. You should be attempting to evaluate without bias in order to form a repeatable hypothesis which could potentially become a theory.
Walk your own path
I am not disappointed if I don’t reach my goal of capturing a picture of a full apparition, my only disappointment would be if I compromised it to attain a more achievable one.
Because a group or individual is famous this doesn’t make them more credible then those that aren’t, neither does having a book, T.V show or popular website. The mainstream scientific community doesn’t judge their peers by their degree of fame they judge them by their ability and the results they produce.
I will never affiliate with any groups or organizations. I have no interest in following anyone else’s rules, or codes of conduct. The path I walk is the one I chose and the only footsteps upon it are mine.
One mans journey into darkness from the shores of Loch Ness, to the deserts of Area 51, on the trail of Jack the Ripper, and across the blood drenched battlefields of Gettysburg. An International pursuit of the strange and paranormal. Haunted houses, ancient cemeteries, mysterious places where monsters walk, legends and realities collide and the hands of the clock are always at midnight.
"Check your watch, the chase continues".
