The greatest influence on our music is probably life itself. Our songs are how we express the impressions that our life's experience leaves upon us. Musically, we pull from an eclectic mix of genre's, and artist too numerous to mention. Anything that at one point or another that was found to be moving in some way, filed into the psyche, blended and shaped by life, to later re-emerge, and be crafted into something that someone else may find moving or relevant.
Sounds Like
We don't try to be mainstream, and we're not really what one would consider cutting edge, but we're not easy to stick into some mass produced category. How best to describe it...
Perhaps it's something less frightening than the sound of the beating wings of harpies as they come to drag you off to the underworld and inflict their unique brand of punishment on your unlucky, pathetic soul.
It's something less beautiful than the sound of the beating wings of angels as they come to carry you to a sweet utopia to live forever in eternal joy and splendor.
Perhaps it sounds a lot like the sound a succubus (or incubus) would make as it treats your mortal body to the most intense pleasure ever known while at the same time it sentences your soul to eternal damnation.
Chasing Shadows formed in 1997 as a musical collaboration between long time friends. It started with an email that re-ignited a creative fire that had begun in high school and college. The idea was simple - revisit the musical foundation we had established earlier on, and realize the vision we initially had. During the next decade, we developed our unique sound while living anywhere from a few hundred miles to an entire hemisphere apart. While sometimes difficult to classify, our sound has evolved and matured over the years, as we attempt to craft memorable and relevant musical statements. If asked, we would describe it as Alternative Rock with a noticeable 80's influence. Despite the geographical distances often involved, we continued to work, taking full advantage of modern technologies, continually bouncing files back and forth through email, until finally in 2008, the songs finally met our expectations, and our first CD, Nocturnal Torment, was complete.
Nocturnal Torment is an exploration of the darker side of life.
Exploring topics from love and loss to greed, environmental destruction, and social decay. Lyrically it explores the random thoughts that creep into ones head as they lay awake at night. Musically it is a sound scape that not only complements the lyrics, but experiments with everything from the in-your-face sound of heavily distorted guitars and industrial/techno inspired keys to soaring choral arrangements and beautiful piano melodies.
