Just in time for summer fun, Time Life releases the perfect soundtrack for beachgoers, surfers, and backyard sun worshippers. Chasing the Sun: The Greatest Songs of Summer (in stores June 5th) includes 59 iconic summer songs – 33 were Top 10 hits - as well as Liquid Stage: The Lure of Surfing, a one-hour DVD documentary on surfing.
Housed in a specially designed box that is shaped like a classic beach cooler, Chasing The Sun features artists whose names and songs are synonymous with beach and surf culture, including The Beach Boys’ “Surfin’ U.S.A.” Dick Dale and His Del-Tones’ “Let’s Go Trippin’” and The Surfaris’ classic surfer anthem “Wipe Out.” The set also includes a disc dedicated to the innocent and fleeting summer love. Pop standards such as “Under the Boardwalk” by The Drifters, “Girl Watcher” by The O’Kaysions and “With This Ring” by The Platters bring back memories of love affairs that faded like a suntan at the end of the season.
In addition to the three CDs, the box set also comes with Liquid Stage The Lure of Surfing on DVD. Detailing the origins and evolution of surfing, the documentary includes exclusive interviews with pioneering big wave riders Woody “Spider” Brown, Rabbit Kekai and Greg Knoll as well as incredible footage of surfers in action. Previously seen on PBS, Liquid Stage combines both vintage and contemporary film clips with still photos to chronicle the sport and detail its lasting impact on popular culture.
