CHASITY aka AMERICAN BAD ASS CHAS!'s Interests
General I love life and love to do new things and get out and see the world. This year (2009) I am going to start job training later to own my own business. I will have the necessary training completed by next May, and have my own business shortly thereafter. In my spare time, I like to volunteer with hospice. I have a few patients, but the one to whom I am most attached is Julia, my 106 year old patient who is still full of enthusiasm for life. She tells it like it is just like I do, and at her age, that is so awesome and so funny to see. In addition to the things I just mentioned, my biggest interest is following Kid Rock and trying at each show to meet him again and again. I am also interested in disability rights, especially as they pertain to blindness. I like doing things that people are uncomfortable with the idea of me doing because I'm blind to prove people wrong. We are in the 21st century now, and I think it's time for people to step out of their comfort zone and realize that blind people are gonna be active in today's society too, and we are not going to let our blindness stop us from living life and having the life experiences that we want to have. We'll do what we want to do in our lives, and blindness, or anything else will not stop us from doing whatever the hell we want in life. I will not take any shit from anyone as it pertains to my blindness. I'll do whatever I want, and if people don't like it, oh well! Wake up and get with the times! I think it is comical when sighted people in public who don't even know me try to tell me that something is not safe for me as a blind person, or they try to tell me I am a "liability." People use that term so loosely in today's society and have no idea what they're saying. It's just comical that someone who has never been blind a day in their life or even learned about the technology and alternative techniques that are out there for a blind person, will try and tell me what they think. Those comments go in one ear and out the other. LOL. I am generally a very outgoing, good-hearted person who will help anyone out or do anything I can for people, but I just don't stand for people to judge me on the merits of blindness alone, when they know they would have a fit if someone judged them on race, gender, height, weight, etc. Luckily, there are laws that protect our rights to be equally included in today's society under the American's With Disabilities Act. I like traveling, reading, riding motorcycles at 120 miles per hour down the country roads, hanging out with friends, watching TV, surfing the net, etc. I really love traveling to go to concerts. I travel via Amtrak or Greyhound or sometimes by plane to go see shows. The ones I usually go to are Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Van Zant, and Kenny Chesney. But I love seeing Kid Rock so much that if I can't find anyone who wants to go to his shows with me, I'll just hop on a Grayhound bus, an Amtrak train or a plane and go by myself. I'm not gonna miss out just because other people decide not to go. I am also a huge animal lover. I recently had to retire my first guide dog, Vanda, because she had carcinoma of the stomach. She passed away in my arms on July 17. She was definitely everything to me because she was the first dog I ever had when I moved out at 18 and went to college. She attended all my college classes with me, traveled to go to concerts with me, and just went everywhere I went. I was introduced to Hadley, my second guide dog late last year. We have been working out great together.
Music I absolutely love that American Bad Ass Kid Rock!! I really like 38 Special and Lynyrd Skynyrd a lot. I think Ronnie Van Zant was the biggest musical genius that ever lived and wrote and sang music. He ranks above Elvis, the Beatles and the Stones all combined in my book! There will never be anyone who can write songs as well as he could. One of my proudest musical moments was when I was at a private Van Zant show in St. Louis on July 12, 2005, and Donnie grabbed me and gave me the microphone to sing Sweet Home Alabama with Johnny. I love those two guys, they are from one of the most famous southern rock families, but still manage to stay so down-to-earth and humble unlike a lot of artists who let it get to their head. Donnie and Johnny Van Zant are two of the nicest guys you could ever meet in your life. I also like Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker, Kenny Chesney, and way too many others to name. But I like anything as long as it's not hard rap, R&B or hard alternative or some real twangy crap. LOL
Movies I like all kinds of movies, but it has to capture my interest from the get go, otherwise, I turn it off in five minutes. Some of my favorites are: Forrest Gump, 40 Year Old Virgin, the Rocky movies, Walk the Line etc.
Television The news or whatever happens to be on when I'm in a lazy mood with the remote in hand. I love DISH Network over cable any day.
Books I like magazines and newspapers. But if I had to choose a few books that I think are worth the read I would say: Emma by Jane Austin, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, Mill on the Floss (I forgot who that is by, but it's another classic.) I enjoyed being in college and reading a number of the classics. I didn't enjoy it at the time, but now am glad I had the opportunity to read them. I also like a lot of non-fiction and some history type books if they capture my attention. I read using a portable device called a Victor Reader Stream. It is about the size of a deck of cards and can fit in my pocket or purse. I can download books on a site that the Library of Congress has, and the books get extracted onto an SD card, which goes into the Stream. They also have the newspapers too that get updated each day as they come out for the general public. So even though I can't read print, I am still as current with things as anyone else. I have really enjoyed reading a lot more since I can use the stream and it's portable. So now I can read while traveling from point A to Point B, etc.
Heroes I really have a lot of respect and admiration for my grandma, Frankie. Out of everyone, I truly believe that she understands my blindness the most, and she treats me with equality. Everyone else does too, to an extent, but I feel the most open and honest with her. I am fortunate and blessed to have a very close relationship with her. We talk a lot and I enjoy confiding in her. I really have a lot of respect for Kid Rock as he has done so much that people just don't know about: he has raised his son as a single father, he has spent the last several years with our troups overseas at Christmas, etc. It has taken him so long to be where he's at in music today and he has worked so hard to achieve his dream career and he didn't let anything stop him or stand in his way and that's how I am too with life. I respect him more from a personal viewpoint than a musician. I definitely love him as a musician too, of course, but I think there is so much about him as a person that goes unnoticed. I admire people who get out and do what they want to do in their lives and don't let anything or anyone stop them. I like people who are passionate about something in their lives and go for it. I can't stand lazy people who just sit around and watch life pass them by. If you have a debilitating condition, those circumstances are different. But otherwise, I think everyone should live life to the fullest. We were put on the earth for a purpose, and all of us should find our calling in life and pursue it.

Myspace Comments | Myspace Graphics | Myspace Surveys I'm a 27-year-old competant, confident, well-educated, half white, half Filipino woman from Missouri. I am an alumnus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis where I graduated with a degree in Mass Communications, an emphasis in Theory and Rhetoric, a minor in English, and a certificate in writing. I am a member of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB). I have been legally blind since birth and we in the NFB believe that with proper training and opportunity, our blindness can simply be reduced to a mere nuissance. We do not see our blindness as a disability, but simply a characteristic of our lives. We do the same day to day things in our lives that sighted people do, but we just use alternative techniques to accomplish them. We believe that the real problem of blindness is not the lack of eyesight, but the misconceptions that exist within the public about blindness and blind people in general. If someone doesn't know something about blindness, I encourage them to ask and find out the real truth about what it is they wish to learn, rather than assume the information themselves. I always tell people that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. I am a brutally honest person. Don't ask unless you really want the truth. I am definitely not the type to beat around the bush or sugar coat anything, I tell it exactly how it is. Several of my friends describe me as being their loudest and most outspoken friend. Although I'm a real direct straight-forward person, (aka a bitch), LOL, I'm generally very easy to get along with. I can talk about almost any subject, and have a friendly debate. The only thing I can't stand is for people to assume things about me because I'm blind. I don't tolerate people assuming that because I'm blind that I can't be independent, or that I'm helpless and incapable of making my own decisions and living my own life to the fullest. I definitely do everything for myself and I am very independent. so feel free to drop me a line anytime. When I do have spare time, I like to hang out with family and friends and drink if they're up for it. I don't mind drinking because I know I'll never have to be the designated driver. LOL. But I don't get crazy drunk, just drink occasionally when a good time is happening. I also like to write, watch TV / movies, travel, see concerts, eat good food, etc. I love to spend time with my dog Hadley and that happens constantly since she's my guide dog. I got her in October 2008 in New York. She is my second guide dog, as my first one, Vanda, passed away very unexpectedly and untimely at age 9 on July 17, 2008. She goes everywhere with me. My biggest obsession, however, that I LOVE to spend the most time on is Kid Rock and I enjoy following him and seeing as many shows as I possibly can. I enjoy that more than anything. I have been officially obsessed with him for the past nine years for the most part. I think people who shit talk him have their heads so far up their asses that they don't even know what the hell they're missing, and those people are more blind than I'll ever be in my life!!! If people shit talk him while I'm present, be prepared for a big debate with me that you won't win!! I had the honor of meeting him for the first time on March 11, 2008. I flew to Georgia and took two trains, two buses and a cab to get to Duluth, GA where the meet and greet took place. I waited eight years to do so, and I know for sure that I will meet him again because generally if I want something bad enough it just gets done and that's just how it is! If I'm determined to do it, it happens, and I want to hang out with him more than anything in life! He, as a person, fascinates me, and it is my dream to be able to talk with him more in depth and be able to see his personality shine in person.
Who I'd like to meet:
Well, I finally met the man I've tried for the last eight years to meet. On March 11, 2008, my long 8 year wait to meet Kid Rock finally came to an end. I flew to Atlanta to meet him when he did a charity event at the Waffle House. He raised almost twenty thousand dollars for a homeless shelter in Georgia. I have been taking Grayhound and Amtrak for the last eight years to see his shows, and I always wanted to meet him. He is one of the hottest, sexiest, most talented artists and songwriters of our time, and if someone doesn't agree, you can kiss my half white, half Filipino, half blind ass!!! LOL. I hope to meet him again in the future. Other than meeting Kid Rock, I would just like to keep meeting Johnny Van Zant over and over and over again so I can keep running my fingers through that long hair and playin' with it! Oh! I love that hair! I've never felt any hair so soft in my life!!!! I could just mess with that all day! I never get enough! LOL. Being blind, my hands have come across a lot of things, and that hair is my favorite thing to touch!! He better never get it cut or he'll have to answer to me!! LOL.

We must stop this immediately:
Have you noticed that stairs are getting steeper. Groceries are heavier. And, everything is farther away.Yesterday I walked to the corner and I was dumbfounded to discover how long our street had become!
and, you know, people are less considerate now, especially the young ones. They speak in whispers all the time! If you ask them to speak up they just keep repeating themselves, endlessly mouthing the same silent message until they're red in the face! What do they think I am, a lip reader?
I also think they are much younger than I was at the same age. On the other hand, people my own age are so much older than I am. I ran into an old friend the other day and she has aged so much that she didn't even recognize me.
I got to thinking about the poor dear while I was combing my hair this morning, and in doing so, I glanced at my own reflection well, REALLY NOW,even mirrors are not made the way they used to be!
Alas, everyone drives so fast these days! You're risking life and limb if you happen to pull onto the freeway in front of them. All I can say is, their brakes must wear out awfully fast, the way I see them screech and swerve in my rear view mirror.
Clothing manufacturers are less civilized these days. Why else would they suddenly start labeling a size 10 or 12 dress as 18 or 20? Do they think no one notices? The people who make bathroom scales are pulling the same prank. Do they think I 'believe' the number I see on that dial? HA! This has nothing to do with getting old.You are all wrong
