I have started a Blog on our dearly departed friends. I am looking for your stories on Chuck Jennings, George Holton, Chris Hobgood, El Duce, Russ Locklear, Steve Gopaul and anyone else that has passed. Click on 'Our Dead Friends.' There are 6 blogs currently, if you want me to start another one just ask!

So the playlist is a little weird. So what? If you were like me your music tastes are from albums purchased on road trips to Wax and Fax in Little Five Points, the few and far between shows we got in Chattanooga (reference the Black Flag photos in the Nucleus blog), road trips to the late great Metroplex, what Vince played late night on Chattanooga state radio, and traded cassette tapes. All with KZ-106 playing in the background. Remember Red Neckerson? Window wings? Before the internet we had to really work for alternative music.

About me:

This space is dedicated to all those who made Chattanooga Punk possible in the 1980's. Join up and post your memories if you were part of this scene. Most of us are in our mid 30's and early 40's now with families, mortgages and responsibilities. But, I bet there are still some of us that reminisce about the good ole days of the 80s Chattanooga Punk scene. Who am I? That’s not important. This myspace page is not about me, it’s about the memories. Now, let me post some band names so that others can find this in a search: The Unsatisfied (Eric Scealf you are a God for keeping Chattanooga punk alive all these years), Hank (R.I.P. my friend Chuck Jennings), King Dork and the Impact Boys, The Kreed, Feast of Pigs, Baby Faye and the Heartless Baboons, The Mentors (not thought of as a Chattanooga Punk Band but had several Chattanooga connections, R.I.P. my friend Eldon Hoke A.K.A. El Duce) The Abstracts, Murder of crows, 37 Targets, Brainwash, Psychobible, Cabrini Green, Mansons, Needle, Dorian Gray, Running Live, Stichhead, Kalas Rain, Woggles (not from Chattanooga but my friend George Holton was, R.I.P. George) Rare Animals, Whoya, Calas Rain, Promise, Simply South, Riot Act, Rubber Soul, Midnight Poets, Wake, Conspiracy, Outrage, The Dead Rednecks, Asbestos (R.I.P. my friend Russ Locklear), The Value, Butthorn-4, Twiggy, Psycho Bible, Helvis, Freakmaker, Dr. Shock and the Go Go Monsters (some of these bands I have never heard of but found discussed on another website). Let’s not forget Hollywood’s, the Brew and Cue and the Stone Lion. Good Lord is there anyone left or has everyone died??? I think it would be interesting not only to share our memorable stories but post what happened to people in the scene. Any success stories out there? I know one or two people who did pretty good for themselves. Hit me up for an add if you were part of the 80s Chattanooga Punk Scene.

Who I'd like to meet:

Anyone who lived in Chattanooga in the 1980's and worshiped The Ramones, Iggy, Bauhaus, Joy Division, The Misfits, Minor Threat, D.R.I., The Suicidal Tendencies, The Mentors, The Sex Pistols, and each and every one of our local punk rock bands. Post your comments on this page or in the Blogs. There are currently 6 blogs, click "view all blog entries" to see them all. Because I don't want the page here overrun by concert notices if you want to add your band to the friends list please e-mail me a short note describing your band's connection to 80's Chattanooga Punk. Thanks! Where are all the Chattanooga 80's Punks at?

Kelly Couch for president. Does anyone remember how Kelly would simply discard his clothing when it was no longer useful?

And then my Mom came in,
And I didn't even know she was there.
    She called my name
    But I didn't hear her.
Then she started screaming, "Mike, Mike!"
And I go, "What? What's the matter?"
She goes, "What's the matter with you?!"
I go, "There's nothin' wrong Mom."
She goes, "Don't tell me that, you're on drugs!"
I go, "No Mom, I'm not on drugs.
Why don't ya give me a Pepsi?"
I'm okay, I'm just thinking, you know.
I go, "Mom, I'm okay, I'm just thinking."
She goes, "No, you're on drugs!"
Normal people don't act in that way!"
She goes, "No, you're not thinking, you're on drugs!
All I want is a Pepsi."
I go, "Mom, just give me a Pepsi please,
    Just one Pepsi!
And she wouldn't give it to me!
And she wouldn't give it to me!
All I wanted was a Pepsi!
    Just a Pepsi!

So i was up in Chattanooga about a month or so ago and it was "punk fest" weekend.  I swear every kid I ran into with a mohawk and UK Subs shirt or something on...I knew his parents from the Nucleus.  BTW, if you want to catch a Chatt band down here in Atlanta we've got MilqueLizard playing at the Atlanta Roller Girls Derby this weekend 7/25 http://atlantarollergirls.com

Phipps (Otto) had a VW van. Yeah we packed it up in a head on collison in '86. The other driver died. Phipps had a broken leg. Shawna Godwin got her face smashed up. I was bed ridden for a couple of weeks and still remember it whenever my back goes out. But hey, I got to buy Tommy Cass's 71 Telecaster from the $.

  • Apr 5 2009 4:40 AM

There were 3 drummerz from Chatt Area Trey Blanks, Trey Phipps, and, myself, Trey Rogers...I had a VW van w/ JCHarvey. I do not know if Phipps(Otto) had a van or not...but I was not involved in the "showdown" @ Hollywoods. BTW all three Treys went to Boyd F*kin Buchanan at one time in history.
  • Mar 31 2009 1:57 AM

Hey! WILLn243 Trey did not have a VW. It was an Audi from what I remember

Hey, anybody remember Kelly Couch and his Caddy...?
  • Mar 5 2009 8:54 PM

    For clarity's sake:
Don't know how many "shooting" incidents there were at Hollywood's, but I believe ours was the first. Vince, Ellis, & Helmut from Jehovah's Sicknesses.
The bus in question was my old '66 splitty.

Trey Phipps had the VW van. I'm pretty sure that TTL was in a terrible wreck in that van around 86. I beleive he (TP) was the one involved with a little gun play at Hollywoods, no?

Trey Rogers is who you are thinking of, who lived in East Brainerd. He played drums with myself, Todd T. Lynch, and Buddy Hayes.
I do not know 4 sure if Otto had a VW van,...but John C Harvey and myself had a van jointly...it was kewl...right down to the shifter that ezily lifted out of the linkage and floor! Thoze were the daze bretheren.
