BLACKLEVEL EMBASSY RELEASE "ASP" ON CHATTERBOX!
It’s difficult enough to create your own musical genre. More so to remember the name of it the next day. Thankfully Blacklevel Embassy keep bed-side dream journals. Their genre is ‘AWESOME’.
"ASP" IS RELEASED BY CHATTERBOX RECORDS ON SAT, 15 NOVEMBER 2008.
If Blacklevel Embassy aren’t already, with the release of their new album Asp are destined to become your favorite punk-rock unit. Bringing as they do the power and precision of acts such as Hot Snakes and The Jesus Lizard as well as the good-time power boogie of ZZ Top and ACDC - this powerhouse trio delivers both musical French kisses and kidney punches.
Here are the names you need to be writing on your school bags... Brett O’Riley (Bass/Vocals), the dude likes it hot and loud. Adam Cooper (Guitar/Vocals), just Wikipedia “Australian kickboxing champions 1998-2002” Dan McKay (Drums), best known for his work with Melbourne rock juggernaut the Nation Blue.
It was his idea to record Asp at Sydney’s Megaphon studio not only because Midnight Oil did, but so that the band could work with producer Jonboyrock (Hard-Ons, Further, Spod, Nunchukka Superfly etc).
But let’s go back a little. Blacklevel Embassy were formed from the ashes of some fine bands (Warped, Ricaine, Little General, Hardware, Solaris). Their debut record Baroc was recorded by Bob Weston (Shellac, Polvo, Sebadhoh) at his Chicago Electrical Audio studio and was followed by a US tour that included performing at LA’s F*ck Yeah Fest to a bunch of hipsters-text messaging, “Crazy Aussie guys destroying the place”.
But that’s all in the past and with Asp we are listening to the sound of a band as much in touch with their musicality as their masculine identity. Asp sees BLE tackling issues such as the Cronulla Riots, the criminal dealings of venue bookers and... cobras walking on two legs. Asp is the smartest punk-rock album you’ll hear this year.

Every person at the show will get a 5 track CD "Pay attention collector scum". These songs were recorded live in the studio (2006). These tracks are unavailable elsewhere. Each CD will be individually numbered and signed by Hard-Ons. Only 500 will be given away. A unique t-shirt just for these two shows will be available at the merch table!

THE HARD-ONS ANNOUNCE SYDNEY RESIDENCY AT HERMANNS AS THEY ENTER 25 YEARS TOGETHER !
If you consider yourself a music fan and you've not heard the name Hard-ons then you must have lived in a cave for the last 21 years! Certainly the Hard-ons are, or should be in this scribes humble but hopefully pertinent opinion, a house-hold name in every country!!!!! Consider the facts. 17 consecutive number 1s on the independent charts in Australia. TV appearances on major shows in Japan, England, Germany, Finland, Spain, France and Greece! A top 10 hit in Spain, a top 5 hit in Greece! The only Australian band still based in Australia to hit the top 5 in the NME charts (in 1989, with LP "Love is a Battlefield of Wounded Hearts") and at the time, the only Australian artist besides Nick Cave or the Go-Betweens to hold that position!
Fans include and included Henry Rollins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jello Biafra, UK Subs, Captain Sensible, members of Radio Birdman and the Saints, Sky Saxon, Brody Dalle, Mike Davis from MC5 (who wrote fan mail!), DJ Speedranch, C.J. and Joey from the Ramones, members of Sepultura and a countless number of big profile metal and punk bands, and even the mayor of Burgos, Spain who in 1991 gave the boys the key to the city!

AT HERMANNS BAR, UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY.

VIOLENT SOHO JOIN THE CHATTERBOX PUBLICITY ROSTER!
Recent additions to the Chatterbox Publicity stable include Brisbane's VIOLENT SOHO. Their upcoming debut album is nothing short of great. 10 spazzed out grung-esque tracks, entitled "We Don't Belong Here". The band are playing with The Hard-Ons and Regular John this weekend @ The Anno! Before joining Faker and Grafton Primary for a national east coast tour and a Brisbane show with Eddie Current Suppression Ring.
Also joining the publicity roster is ROGER LOVES BETTY (Jodi Phillis and Tim Oxley). Their debut Album is called Let Love Begin. It is an Album filled with timeless, world class, classic pop and stands as a celebration of true love and happiness. It reveals a world filtered through the eyes of two slightly off-beat and at times, melancholic characters. Within a framework of acoustic and electric guitars, drums, bass, whistling solos and lush orchestral arrangements, including sitar and beer bottles, their lyrics of wisdom and innocence combine with honey dripping boy-girl harmonies to create a trippy but somehow, always cosy atmosphere.
Other recent Publicity clients include LOWRIDE (who have kindly donated all sales of their online EP "Hindu Gods of Love" to David Taylor of The Lipstick Killers! Kudos!), THE DIRTY SECRETS (who's self-titled album is a must-have!). And did we mention they recently supported Muse on their Australian Tour!) and BREAKBOT - who's EP just got added to rotation over at the J's !!

NUNCHUKKA SUPERFLY ELECTRIFY BRISBANE WITH THE LAUNCH OF THEIR LP
With the release of their fourth album on their fourth different label, the mighty NUNCHUKKA SUPERFLY think they have found a home! Says Blackie "The people who run Chatterbox are loud, arrogant and just plain rude... what more could you want!!??" and Joel "We wanted to deal with people who were just like us". The new opus was recorded in typical fashion for NUNCHUKKA SUPERFLY ie; in four days, but says Ray "We didn’t wanna waste time on over dubs after over dubs and get there in front of the people… that’s where the real money is"** - not that you could tell listening to it! In 4 days NUNCHUKKA can make an album that people would spend years trying to make! According to Blackie it’s because "we’re heaps talented". So people, what are you waiting for?! NUNCHUKKA are coming to your town and you better be quick! The 1st show of the tour resulted in all copies of the newie being snapped up even before they could pack up the leads.

PEABODY AND SOUNDS LIKE SUNSET CO-HEADLINE GIGS IN MARCH

Thursday 13 at the Oxford Tavern, Wollongong and then a couple of co-headlining shows with pals, Sounds Like Sunset on Friday 14 at the Sandringham, Newtown and Saturday 15 at the Excelsior, Surry Hills. Of course the bands will be tossing a coin on the night to see who plays last to assume the status of “hero”. Gold and virgins will be showered upon said heroes. Be gone now, for it is the still of the night that irks me so, like your deadly silence before you break my heart.

FURTHER LAUNCH 'TACTICS' THIS WEEKEND AT THE HOEY!
Nine years is a long time to slug away at making a name for yourself in the world of punk rock. Especially if you're tagged as a "best-kept secret" as FURTHER often are.
Following two full length releases and four EPs, 'Tactics', their third long-player, is their defining statement. Full-of succinct, bomb-blast punk-rock anthems, 'Tactics' is an exercise in good taste and restraint. Only putting the basest of elements into their music, FURTHER have recorded a near-perfect rock record. No overdubs, no studio trickery and no waste (the longest song is still under 2.5 minutes long) it's a big departure from their previous eight-minute epics.
To celebrate the launch of their new LP 'Tactics', FURTHER will be performing at the Hopetoun Hotel in Surry Hills on Saturday, March 1st with Sounds Like Sunset and Talons providing support. Head on down and check out what is sure to be an intense performance!
'Tactics' out NOW on CHATTERBOX RECORDS.
