Charlie Chesterman ( Chaz) former member of Boston Fave Scruffy the Cat released his first solo effort "From the Book of Flames" in 1994 with a handful of musician friends including guitarist Andy Pastore and Drummer John Clarke, soon after Bassist Jim Faris joined in and the pieces were in place for the formation of the Legendary Motorbikes. In 1995 they put out their sophomore CD the country tinged "Studebakersfield" and followed it up in 1997 with the Rock and Roll party album "Dynamite Music Machine".
Following the release of "Dynamite" the drum seat was vacated by John and Gary Gendron picked up the sticks becoming a motorbike for the next two CD's "Ham Radio" and "Skunk on the Loose" w/ additional drumming by Ken Schopf. In 2004 John rejoined the Band and they released "Well my Heart went Boom!" a lively CD of Motorbike performances from WMBR, 88.1 fm in Boston.
Charlie and his band the Motorbikes have toured the Country, played countless club and radio shows and received glowing reviews in publications from Q magazine to the New York Times. And Charlie has been cited in the book "Modern Twang" as one of the founding fathers of the No Depression sound and an influence on bands like Wilco and the Jayhawks. Thanks for Listening!
A BIG P.S. This is a very delayed notice to those that might care about such things. Jim "Kentucky" "Link" Faris has taken his wonderful self and his beautiful Sparkly Bass and his even more Sparkly Family and moved to the green pastures of old Virginia. We'll miss the Big Lug. But lucky for us circling the departing Jim was Bill "The Vulture" Hansen who comes to us by way of fine bands like Pooka Stew and the Grandsons of the Pioneers. He brings boyish charm and a truckload of enthusiasm to our little combo. Come on out and cheer him on. He's good....Van Johnson good.
hey thanks john! i really want to make it down to sally's tomorrow, i'll do my best. i've been a fan of charlie for years. let's do a show at sally's in the fall
thanks! i love the holly-ish sound on some of these tracks. i remember seeing stc at johnny d's allston, with the old drummer. "hank williams never loved no-one... but his pills"... and NEARLY saw a solo show at the old store 54, except i was one of maybe 5 people that showed, so it didn't happen. time, time, time.
