I was making costumes for the high school play here on the island the other day and the kids put on Sting and were singing along, and May Lou Eroen and I just looked at each other and got misty-eyed about days gone by...so I just wanted to drop in and say hello! I was driving home one night this last spring, and I spent the whole trip home trying to grasp the reality that there are billions of people in hell right this very moment. I wonder… how many souls are there in hell right now that I have seen here on earth? I wonder… how many passed the gaze of my eyes? I wonder… would they have repented (if I had warned them)? I wonder… how many souls have gone and will go to hell because You or I did not correct or reprove them. Is not a father guilty of the blood of his child that he refused to correct? The child who lived in sin, died in sin and now is in hell; is not the parent guilty who did not correct and reprove the child. How are we not guilty, when we neglect to preach the Word of God and reprove sinners of their ways?
We are told by God in Ephesians to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. We are told to reprove them. (Eph 5:11) What if you don’t reprove them?
“If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?” (Proverbs 24:11-12)
So, when I arrived home I was deeply convicted and I wrote this song in about 10 to 20 minutes. Immediately I recorded it (Live) in my parent’s living room. I didn’t care too much of the quality of sound. I just had to get this recorded while this grief for sinners was upon me.
