Guitar - Tom 'Hensh' Henshall
Drums/Backing Vocals - Oscar Schumacher
Bass/Backing Vocals - Alex 'Donny' Donora
On the drums and scarily tight drainpipes, Oscar is a hippie who plays the drums. Fortunately for CB he can play the drums damn well, from quick-wristed cymbal cascades to steam-hammer rock beats, always with the feel of the song and always very iimpressive..... and BLOODY loud! John Bonham meets Neil Peart with the power of a pneumatic drill, to put it mildly.
Tom's guitar playing gives the band a real sense groove with that tight 'sloppy' sound that Keith Richards and Izzy Stradlin were masters at.
The skeletal one who sings and plays guitar like a man posessed is Ian. He built his guitar out of spare parts as a subconscious escape from anorexia, has a strange love of cheap glamour and posing with mic stands. Equal parts tortured soul and consummate showman, Ian takes his cues from both Jagger and Richards - Tyler and Perry - DRL and EVH, tearing effortless lead breaks from his hot rodded strat one minute, strutting about the stage with just the microphone the next.
Donny's got a great sense of funk, and his powerful fingerstyle locks in with Oscar to form a truly supersonic rhythm section. Unfortunately he's not into playing lots of gigs in London, so we are looking for someone else at the moment.....
Influences
Chelsea Burns are influenced to some extent by music ranging from the classic rock of Led Zeppelin to the primal sound of the New York Dolls, the searing blues of Muddy Waters to the visceral Hanoi Rocks, and of course Van Halen. All things Rock are given their due reverence, but the band take these classic sounds to the next level, creating a sound that is all their own. Taking vocal cues from Mick Jagger, Michael Monroe, and Steven Tyler (in his dreams), Ian practically gets high just from getting up onstage, with a powerful, manic stage presence (while occasionally overdoing the prancing around and preening). Ian's guitar segues effortlessly between fiery virtuosity to jaw-dropping rock power and back again to laid back blues licks often within a single song, while never losing sight of a classic melody. Underneath this onslaught, Oscar's infectious drumming ranges from ear-bleeding rampages across the entire kit to cymbal cascades and sledge-hammer rock beats. Alex 'Donny' Donora updates the classic rock bass sound with a powerful attack and driving bass lines mixed with the dextrous fills he has made his own, giving the band a unique and powerful sound, dangerous rock songs with explosive impact. Unlike so many rock bands however, CB have a great feeling for contrast and dynamics, taking the listener on a roller-coaster ride from hell through the course of each song, from almost painfully intense, reflective blues through to sing-along anthems within the same set or even the same song! Watch this space.
Sounds Like
A perfect marriage of the visceral and intellectual with a shot of showmanship. The power of rock n roll with intelligent lyrics railing against the crassness of materialism, consumerism, and hypocrisy, and a stage show you'll remember for a long time

About Chelsea Burns? Well, we’re a quartet made up of former members of Eclipse (don’t worry f you haven’t heard of them) and Hensh. Despite some good gigs together, playing to 1500 people at a slightly strange event in The King’s Road (yes, in Chelsea!) Eventually we quit, mainly coz we were fed up with having a prima donna singer who couldn’t actually sing to save his life. (If this is you, we’re only joking). The other guitarist liked dance music, pop-punk and the old singer, none of which really kept him with us. Fair enough he liked decent music as well, that was something of a joke as well, but it’s true.
So, Chelsea Burns were formed. The story continues...... we worked on our songs a bit, then a promotions agency got in touch with us, giving us the opportunity to play lots of gigs in London. Unfortunately Donny decided that this wasn’t the route for him, so before we can book any more gigs up we’re going to need to find someone else to play bass. His last gig with us will be at The Dry Bar in Smithfield.
So then there were three, united by the three tenets of Peace, Love an’ Rock & Roll, dedicated to spreading the New Bohemia (ok it’s not a bona fide movement yet, but it bloody well will be) and making sweet music!
