(chin-yay-loo bo-mah-nee)
I was born, raised and educated in Detroit, Michigan. My interest in the Arts in general began at a very early age. Dibbling and dabbling in plays, talent shows, school papers; art exhibits, etc.
Being on the scene or behind the scene is where I was happiest. My affinity for music was the same way. My earliest encounter was with a set of drums which belonged to a musician friend of the family. I would try and get my little hands on the sticks every chance that I could so that I could rattle the skins. Later I would take formal guitar lessons but I preferred playing by ear which was mainly rock and roll. I tinkered with the piano and organ also. I was happy just putzing. My constant interest has been with percussion instruments. My first music exposure was to the blues and later it expanded to all forms of music.
I began writing poetry and stories in the late 60's. I performed solo and occasionaly with a few other performers and we called ourselves "The Black Ghosts of Truth" back in the day. The street scene was my main stage. Performing at parks, festivals, street corners, etc. Later, I did sets in Detroit at "Rappa House" and at the "Moon Glow Lounge".
Needless to say, I was a child of the turbulent 60's which had an immense impact on me in many ways. I obtained a degree majoring in Mental Health Technology and minored in Substance Abuse Counseling. I put music on the shelf and became immersed in my chosen work but I did manage to keep writing in the form of a company newsletter which I created and edited.
Now, I have returned to my two original loves in the artistic world and have found so much bursting from within me on so many levels. I am busy writing, creating and arranging music of various types because I view the various cultures of the world as a huge music mall and am busy blending different genres to create a different but relevent unique sound that has a global mood to the music being created. And I must say that I have some sound bytes for your ears coming down the pike. So keep 'em open because they'll be coming at ya!.GO Listen: www.myspace.com/mindphasemusic
The current volumes (yes, there is more than one) "Brown Eyes" grew out of the current societal milieu and has direct root in observations, media and history. The monologue on Vol. 1 explains the current setting for all of the spoken material. It is not just an African American thing!. The characterizations have become a part of the national and global landscape. People will be able to relate to the messages contained within each spoken piece. There is food for thought and my hopes are that listeners are entertained and will assimilate the music and the messages.
My intention is that the youth have a better understanding of the things that surround them which can alter their life and the lives of others. Ignorance is not bliss!.
We all have the ability to make choices but it is crucial that when making a choice it is made by an informed decision.
Peace and Love.......Bomani
