About me:

Mill Creek Animal Rescue is located on 15 acres in the Arkansas River Valley. At the moment, in addition to my two pitbulls, we have 26 rescue dogs (15 of which are puppies 4 weeks or younger) and 27 rescue cats (17 of which are kittens 8 weeks or younger) at Mill Creek Animal Rescue. I started a new blog at http://NewPetZone.com. I'm also an expert author at ezinearticles.com, under the pen name of CD Miller.

About My Rescue

Did you know that 70,000 dogs and cats are born in the United States every day?

Did you know that 8 million perfectly adoptable dogs and cats are killed every year because they don't have a home or loving family?

Did you know that the number one reason people surrender a dog or cat to the shelter is because of behavioral problems that are easily corrected with love and training?

Did you know that 64% percent of the animals that are taken to shelters are never adopted and end up being killed?

Did you know that an unaltered female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years? And an unaltered female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in 6 years?

..If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem...

How you can help

Consider becoming a temporary foster parent. Spring has sprung, and there is an overabundance of homeless animals who need second chances. If you have a big heart, and a little bit of extra space, please consider fostering a cat/kitten or dog/puppy. We simply cannot take them all in, and the local shelter is not an option, as animals there are put down within just a few days if they are not adopted due to overcrowding at their facility.

If you are looking for a new companion for you and your family, please consider adopting one from a shelter or rescue. We don't just have "mutts". Many rescues are actually purebred dogs and cats who were surrendered or abandoned.

Adopt a Virtual Pet Today!

Wish you could adopt but can't right now? We have the purrfect solution for you! Adopt a virtual cat or dog. Receive regular emails and photos of your adoptee. Your donation will help to provide food, veterinary care and spay/neuter for the pets we are trying to re-home.

For more information, contact MillCreekAnimalRescue@gmail.com

We always appreciate any donations to our rescue efforts. You can donate money, supplies, time -- we accept any donations, big or small. We are in particular need of:

Purina Dog and Puppy Chow and Purina Cat and Kitten Chow
    Tidy Cat Multiple Cat Litter
    Crates and kennels
    Blankets, sheets and towels
    Fencing materials
    Lumber and other building materials
    Foster parents
    Gift Certificates
    Money works too!

If you can help out in any of these areas, please contact us. We are in the process of applying for 501(c) status, so your donation will likely be tax deductible in 2008.

Why does a "used" pet cost so much to adopt?

I'm so glad you asked! My recommendation is that you contact your veterinarian and find out how much it would cost to provide the following services:

    Physical Exam/Office Visit ($35.00)
    Vaccinations ($40.00)
    Health Screen ($40.00)
    Presurgical bloodwork ($35.00)
    Neuter ($75.00) or Spay ($160.00)

If your vet can provide these services to you for less than $255-$340, I would be surprised. (If the spay/neuter charges are less, make sure you ask whether or not pain medication will be used!) And, those are the prices for a healthy animal. If you happen to get one with mange, or heartworm, or a broken bone, the cost skyrockets from there.

So, why do animal rescue?

I can tell you, we're not in it for the money. We don't typically charge $250 or $350 to adopt an animal out. And, those aren't the only charges we incur. There is also transportation expense, food, supplies, crates and kennels, leashes and collars, etc.

We also aren't in it for the glory. There is nothing glorious about getting mange from a rescued dog and itching like the dickens until the mites die off. There is nothing glorious about cleaning kennels. There is nothing glorious about a house that smells more like a kennel than a home. And there is nothing glorious about having to get up during the night to bottle feed orphaned pups too young to be separated from their mother.

No, we do it because we love animals. And because we would save every one of them if we possibly could.

In addition to the slide show above, you can find pictures of the animals we have available for adoption by clicking on our photo album for adoptable pets, or by visiting our shelter at Petfinders.com.
