Cherie Donovan and Martin Guitar
~in collaboration with Tami Stamper ~
Thanks to Tim Miller for his - kind giving of time - nearby the cozy heat of fire within his Laughing Buddha Studio ~
Influences
I've heard it in my head - like a rhythm drum, a beating -
to the top and overflowing - I'm a spill of endless word.
Influences ...?
...the ordinary. A walk outdoors - hello to strangers -
If someones holds my hand - making me laugh and sometimes cry -
it hits me in the heart - making these lasting indentations -
as I sit at home alone - pick up a pencil and a paper -
it all comes tumbling forward -
like I said -
it has a rhythm ~
Influences ...? Everyday ~
I've been told - and yes, I hear resemblance - for I've been 'influenced' from my birth. Even tho I hunker-like a hermit - it's been a never ending listening ~
I started singing nursery rhymes - then harmonizing with lawn mowers - so sure of operatic stages ... with volumed lungs - I let it fly - a voice - belting ~
Then Joan - I loved her warble - and I sang along, pretending - a little girl of the 60's when Joni penned her many words ~
Billie - and of course - Ella - and Ed Sullivan, I thank you ...for bringing Louie into my living room - I sat a child in wait and yearning - for the wide world ~ I had this feeling ~
Niel and Cat - and yes, Sean Phillips - in splendid vocal - he sucked his breath completely and filled the room - he drew me in!
There was this fellow - still a mystery - that I found upon a hill - Queen Anne to be specific - now "that" man, surely made me dream. His name was Paul Parish - a vinyl record rummage sale - I knew his every word - and I can sing his long song still ... "He" ...still a mystery ~
I 'could' go on and on - for the music's always pulled me - the first words of rap, I heard ~ my soul - a fast ball flame - it had me spinning -
for I spit, sometimes - so quick - not brisk enough for all the telling - Blue Scholars and the like - they have me proudly grinning ~
...Carole King and Tapestry - and now, I sing of wings ~
This last long year seems a lifetime lived ~ a first "Collaboration" -
gaining a friend ~
A comfort - to find another who loves the back and forth as much as I - to write in depth - of feelings - to twist and delve through memories - in the flesh - as allegory ~
All songs written by either Cherie Donovan and/or in collaboration with Tami Stamper - some solo, while others circled, in accord - and I love the words and meanings - I thank you Tami ~ it was a 'good thing' ~ Synergy ~
I continue, on the chase -
away from lone - toward a dream - that is togetherness ~ a harmony.
Altho solo singing suits me - in concert with vibrating strings -
I lean into the fantasy - as motivating mania - gathers speed ~
One day - in want - I aim - another collaboration -
for I love the back and forth -to tell a word - to gather meanings ~

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

Hi Cherie, I hope you're having a lovely day. It's been a few months since our last hello and before I knew it, we're already mid way into the year. I hope you've been happy and well. Just wanted to say hi. With warm thoughts.... wishing you a beautiful weekend.
You are truly one and only. I can't think of a voice that's like yours! Maybe a little Emmylou? But it's so cool. It was great to hear you live again. The little ones in your life are so lucky! If I had had a live, in the flesh, songstress influence when I was so small my world would have looked brighter. Well, until next time, eh?!
Hello Cherie, sorry to answer so late; back on your page...i do quite often visit it! it's true i've been quite busy these few days, and when i log in i don't see your light on anymore as it used to before (oh not sure that's really clear!).
How have you been? I promise to come back on your page pretty soon and listen again to all your new songs! (except "circle song", i know this one quite well already!). A bientôt
Nice to meet you too, Cherie! Loved your beautiful song. You have a great voice, very unique. Hope to see you again at the songwriters circle. Thanks for your positive comments about my song!
Hi Cherie. Thank you for the friendship. You have a very beautiful voice! Circle Song is my favourite song here so far. But I really like all of them. Take care! /Helena
Hi Cherie, I Love your new songs! Thank you for sharing the beautiful music with us all. I especially thought Talk To Me spoke directly to me. Very warm and personal sounding song. Keep it up--
