Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not - Quote Ralph Emerson
I really like that quote by Emerson don't you. As for me, my happiness and satisfaction come from being willing to be the expression of love and good works. And thankfully, this discovery has brought me happiness and lasting peace. For me, "conscious worth" makes my heart feel good.
Speaking of happiness! I also have a fondness for music, art, writing, dance, reading and sports.
And I like music alot because it is the "universal language" that tells stories and creates emotions or feelings.
Yes, music is amazing because it has no barriers which makes it unique and easy for people from every walk of life to communicate with each other.
Again, my name is Michelle and my friends call me Shelley. Enjoy your stay. One more thing, I would like to dedicate all my creative endeavors to "The Ink Spots" and my family. My granddad Orville (Hoppy) Jones is at the top center in the photo above.

Tony Bennett is an artist. He is best known as a revered performer. Tony Bennett is also a visual artist, painting under his family name of Benedetto. The painter is an alter ego to the performer, living out a passion that is personal and introspective. Ever since Anthony Benedetto, at the age of five, began drawing chalk pictures on the sidewalks of his hometown in Astoria, Queens he has had a commitment to art that has flourished. With his standing over five decades as one of the premier entertainers in the world, he finds time to paint every day, sketching the view from the windows of his hotel suite or out in the countryside’s to which he travels.
Tony Bennett began formal training as an art student at the School of Industrial Arts (now known as the School of Art and Design) in Manhattan and continued his studies with private studios and teachers throughout the years. A self-proclaimed "museum freak," he visits museums and galleries all over the world, especially during his extensive concert tours.
Tony Bennett has experimented with a wide range of subjects, has studied the intricacies of various styles, and has learned from the great masters. His body of work reflects an awareness of the history of art and the artist's continuing passion for enjoying and creating that which is universally recognized as beautiful.
Tony Bennett in the Studio: A Life of Art & Music at Barnes & Noble. The New York Edition and The Florentine Edition. The New York Edition is bound in midnight blue bonded leather, and slip cased in fine woven cloth. The book includes a copy of the CD Pop ART Songs—a limited edition CD featuring Tony Bennett performing personally selected impressionistic art songs.
The New York Edition also features an exquisite limited-edition giclée published here for the first time, printed on high-quality archival watercolor paper: Still Life New York, which was painted in the artist’s own studio overlooking Central Park, measures approximately 11 x 14 inches, is numbered, and hand-signed by Tony Bennett. The book also includes a tipped-in, numbered vellum frontispiece signed by Bennett, as well as a ribbon marker.

until tonight
my heart was just half full
i'd never known the fruit which fed the soul
but now i see what may put to rest my longing
for i have seen, the face of love
the grace of god, the face of love
in silence i feared my heart
would remain words unheard
inside a separateness of skin
but now i know that the skin just veils the soul
for i have seen, the face of love
the grace of god, the face of love
so take my hand and knowing
with it i also give my heart
wanting never to be separate again
let eternity begin
if you were flame
i'd allow myself to be consumed completely
were you wind i would wish you pass through me
but now i know that the skin just veils the soul
for i have seen, the face of love
the grace of god, the face of love

Dear Hearts, I do believe in Altruism. And I believe we should do things not because we want repayment, but because it's the right thing to do. That's why I'm making my Heroes section a little "amen corner" to showcase good works in the community.
Are you scratching your head? Are you wondering what is a Amen Corner! Well, the Amen Corner was the first dramatic play by the now much-celebrated African-American novelist, essayist, and playwright James Baldwin, was written during the 1950s, first performed on the professional stage in 1965, and first published in 1968. So, dear hearts “Set thine house in order.” and when you get a chance check him out too.
Okay, my little amen corner is called, I know You By Heart, Charity. Also, to lead this section is a song by Jennifer Hudson, her moving and powerful performance touched my heart. Blessings to You, Love Shelley
"Making a Difference" stories usually air every Friday on NBC Nightly News.
Making birthday wishes come true
March 20: A group of Boston women are Making a Difference by bringing birthday wishes to kids living in area shelters. NBC's Rehema Ellis reports. Full story
The Birthday Wishes Mission
Our mission is simple: To bring birthday parties to homeless children. Birthday Wishes recognizes the importance of a birthday in a child's life and believes that the gift of a birthday celebration provides normalcy, joy and hope in these children's otherwise unsettled lives.
Our grassroots philosophy fosters the spirit of volunteerism and community service in the adults, children and families who donate their time and resources to our mission.
When I was a little girl, I was a pony girl just like my mom. Also, there was a horse stable a few blocks from my home so it was easy for me to go riding. Now, that I'm older I think of myself as a "lady rider"
Therefore, it is safe to assume that I like Motorcycles too. Okay I love horses but there are a few other things that I like to do, like reading! Right now as you can see from the few photos I posted. I definitely have a passion for the Greek Myths. That's why I posted this fun photo of the cowrgirl on the dusty trail. Yes, she is taking a bath. And believe it or not the Greek Goddess Psyche's (Look at Picture Here) famous bath photo was my inspiration : )
Alright, I encourage you to take a look around, have fun and come back often to my page. Love Shelley
Also, I love U2, Paul Weller and the Corrs and many other artists so here's a cool video called, Summer Wine by Bono of U2 and the Corrs.

This my new journal on Word Press. Click the icon and please Visit my other Rebel Heart journal - I have three:
My grandad Orville “Hoppy” Jones (was born February 17, 1905) was a singer/musician and a member of a vocal group, the Ink Spots. Also, I would like to say, I'm very proud of the fact that (the Ink Spots) were one of the first groups to break down racial barriers. Here's a brief biography from the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
In the words of soul singer Jerry Butler, a solo artist and founding member of the Impressions, “The Ink Spots were the heavyweight champions of quartet singing.” Clyde McPhatter, one-time singer with both the Dominoes and the Drifters, once admitted, “We patterned ourselves after the Ink Spots.” One of the first popular black groups, the Ink Spots can be regarded as forerunners of the doo-wop and rhythm & blues movements that followed. In the wake of their innovative harmonies came a slew of black vocal groups, including the Ravens, the Orioles, the Dominoes and the Drifters.
Inspired by big-name jazz bands and old-time vaudeville acts, the Ink Spots got their start in Indianapolis in the 1920s. The members would improvise harmony vocals, often simulating wind instruments with their voices. In 1939, the group switched styles from jazzy swing to intimate balladry. “If I Didn’t Care,” a million seller, inaugurated a stream of hit ballads in a similar vein, including “My Prayer, “ “We Three,” “Maybe” and “When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano.” Most of their big hits were sweet ballads with lead vocals by Bill Kenny (who joined in 1936, the year the Ink Spots signed to Decca).
The group maintained its popularity with both black and white audiences into the early 1950s, becoming one of the first acts to break down racial barriers by performing at previously all-white Southern venues. The Ink Spots’ tradition of romantic ballads sung in perfect harmony retains its timeless, old-fashioned appeal to this day.”
As you all know by now Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite places. From time to time I just like to go to my favorite store at Lincoln Square and 66 Street in New York City and browse around for books, magazines, dvd's, cd's, cards and gifts. Oh and I've been known to have a cup of coffee in their cafe. It is always nice to walk into their cafe, and have a cup of coffee while I'm reading my book : )
You know what? I like Barnes & Noble so much I have decided to highlight their "picks of the week" on my myspace page with my new slideshow at the top of this statement. The title of my slideshow is, Everyone is a star - the actors, music artists, authors etc. So, don't forget to comeback and see what's hot at Barnes & Noble.
I love walking in a Barnes & Noble store and seeing parents reading to their kids or college students sitting on the floor captivated by a book. It makes me happy.
Yes, it is definitely a good place to take your children. My family is very important to me. If you take a look at my myspace photo gallery there is a picture of me and my mother's brother Orville. He loved to read and never left home without a book in his hand. Actually, I come from a family of readers.
I spent many an afternoon at home with my grandmother reading books. My Mom would read to me all the time and I learned to read from her before I went to school. Of course one of my most cherished possessions was my library card. Looking back, I guess that is why I like buying books so much. And I'm very proud of my little library at home. Thanks to my family I love to read and discussing the books that I read. To me knowledge is power and it should be shared.
Perhaps by me sharing my love for reading, I can inspire parents who visit this page to read to their children. My friend is a teacher. He said, that statistically, children who are read to have a better chance at achieving success later in life. If I can think of one positive thing to say about reading it would be; reading stimulates your child's imagination, their emotional development and increases their confidence and self-esteem. So, in my eyes taking your children to buy a book on a saturday afternoon is all good.
Perhaps, they will remember you taking them there and hopefully be reading role models for their children too. Anyway, I can talk about reading all day. Here's some more information about my favorite place Barnes & Noble.
This is what B&N has to offer you and your family. Here's a promo for a new store that opened:
Barnes & Noble offers a Membership Program offers discounts for a $25 annual fee.
It also offers a special-order service, large children's department, a newsstand stocked with out-of-town and foreign newspapers, Wi-Fi service and a previewing system for movies, audiobooks and music.
The store will also host community events, such as author readings and discussions, book clubs and other programs, throughout the year.
I think most stores have been setup to feature Starbucks beverages, bakery goods, candy from Godiva Chocolatiers and sandwiches.
Finally, one of the things I like to do is buy a gift card for a friend or family member. I like this idea because with a gift card there's no guesswork because your friend or family member can shop for books, DVDs, CDs and much more. There's something for everyone and it doesn't have to cost alot of money. I agree it is a Perfect gift for book-lovers like me or college students with huge reading lists. Have Fun! Shelley : )
Now that you know a little bit about my family background. I want to move our conversation to the subject of ART. Did I mention that I'm the kind of person who really likes to take art classes because I like to do artsy projects all the time. Also, the cool part is, I get to meet so many nice people.
My friends, as a dancer, music lover and avid art fan there are so many people I would really love to meet but instead of making a list here. I'm going put an artist spotlight right here in this section. It can be a drawing, painting, sculpture, graphic design, interior design or something related to film & theater, and music, to name a few.
This is a tribute to my (maternal) grandmother Esther who also loved the arts!
It takes hard work and determination to be an artist and the people in our lives and community can really make the difference.. As in all walks of life, motivation and self determination are key ingredients. Therefore, I would like to share a story of determination about my grandmother. When my grandmother was a young girl she was stricken with polio and made a full recovery. Knowing that she beat the odds gave her the joyful enthusiasm to use her legs often. That is why for the rest of her life instead of taking a bus, a car or train she would walk to her destination : )
In the artist spotlight is one of my favorites, Leonardo Da Vinci!
"Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art" - Quote by Leonardo
Privately owned painting called La Bella Principessa, thought to be a lost work by Leonardo da Vinci
Here is an excerpt from Time Magazine regarding the mysterious girl in the portrait.
It's the flip side to the multimillion-dollar counterfeit. The art world is abuzz with the recent discovery that a portrait thought to be the drawing of an unknown 19th century German artist is now being attributed to the Italian master Leonardo da Vinci. And the way the revelation was made is straight out of a Sherlock Holmes novel: researchers traced the portrait to the artist using a 500-year-old fingerprint.
The 13-by-9-inch portrait, which has now been dubbed La Bella Principessa, is a delicate profile of a young aristocratic Milanese woman, drawn with pen, chalk and ink on an animal skin known as vellum. It was bought two years ago by an anonymous Swiss collector at the Ganz Gallery in New York for about $19,000. Experts now put the possible value of the artwork at upwards of $150 million.
Now unfortunately because of my lifestyle choices I don't get to watch TV all the time. However I admit that I like to channel surf when I do watch TV. And if you keep reading you will find a couple shows that I really like. (big smile) ABC's The View -- I may not agree with the women on the view all the time. But that's okay. Here is some info about the show.
The View features ABC News correspondent Barbara Walters -- who appears on average three days a week -- moderator Whoopi Goldberg, comedian Joy Behar, actress/comedian Sherri Shepherd, and designer and former Survivor: The Australian Outback participant Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The View consists of hot topics in the news, the best experts in their field, celebrity interviews, and general entertainment. The program celebrated its 2000th show on February 2, 2006, and is now in its 12th season on the ABC Television Network.
NBC's The Today Show with Matt, Meredith, Al & Ann -- This show is a lot fun and I learn so much! Plus my favorite feature of the show is when the Today Show news warriors travel the world.
Btw, for more fun check out this cool travel tool. It's called, the (Travel Muse) With their "Where to go on Vacation" page you choose basic trip preferences: Departure airport, approximate budget, number of travelers, season, duration of trip, and the number of hours you'd be willing to fly to get there. Then you can play with the "themes" feature for your trip. Choose from a list of activities and genres of travel. Then click "Inspire Me!" Enjoy!
More info about Today Show from the official website.

Willard Scott contributes with his popular centenarian birthday segments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Curry, Natalie Morales, Kathie Lee, and Hoda Kotb co-anchor the show's fourth hour.
"Don't forget to check out the Today Show, Toyota concert series. Also, the weekend broadcasts continue the TODAY tradition of covering breaking news, interviewing news makers, reporting on a variety of popular-culture and human-interest stories, covering health and finance issues and presenting the latest weather reports. The weekend edition is co-anchored by Amy Robach, Lester Holt and Jenna Wolfe.
Throwing a Wedding!
So since I posted something about the Today show in this section. Here is another feature of the show that is a favorite. Well, my love I guess you know my secret, I'm a true blue romantic : o )
And the NBC Today Show and Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine team up for an annual wedding series. That's right some lucky couple gets the chance to have their wedding on the Today Show. Of course you know with Martha Stewart on board the wedding is going to be picture perfect to the last detail and fabulous. As a consultant Martha shares her ideas for the rings, the wedding gown, the tux, the attendants' attire, and the cake, as well as the details for the ceremony and reception.
Then “Today” viewers vote on their favorite options to plan and finalize the nuptials. The ceremony is then broadcast live on “Today" and the wedding gets featured in an upcoming issue of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. Isn't that wonderful I just love it.
Another reason I'm mentioning this to you?!? It is because I know how hard it is to plan a wedding and sometimes you just don't know where to start. Don't despair, I'm sure there is a way that you can plan your Dream Wedding, save thousands of dollars, and still survive all the way through your big day without going crazy. More, information about Martha Stewart's awesome Wedding Magazine and the Today Show wedding series just below.
Perhaps by watching the show and reading her magazine you will get some ideas that might help you "Live Your Dream" All you need is a little help and insight and your wedding will be one you've always dreamed of. Now close your eyes and imagine… you are walking down the aisle. There are rose petals laid down for you to glide across. And then the magical moment when you see the one you love waiting for you! ahh Bliss...
An elegant and award-winning bridal magazine from Martha Stewart Living that guides couples so their big day will be special.
Don't leave yet, if you need a wedding favor idea, or a wedding dress designer or if want to know what Travel Magazine I like then read on.
Yum! Godiva has unique and delicious chocolate party favors. So for your next party, try a Chocolate Party Favor. For more, information, visit Godiva Chocolates
Just Married! Are you planning a trip or thinking about going on your honeymoon well, here's a Travel Magazine that I like to share with you. Go Here
Finally the other day I was looking around on the internet and fell in love with designer, Joan Shum. Yes, I read This Interview
with Joan and decided to share her beautiful dresses with all of you.
Joan has launched a unique bridal collection that unites her passion for art, costume, and fashion into a line of elegant gowns. Each hand-made ensemble accentuates the bride’s figure and distinctive style. Combining a timeless era with contemporary influence, these classic gowns are as unforgettable as the wedding day.
Quite the site! Whoa! Thank you for the friend request. How are things in NY? It's great fun to have friend requests from people who love art and music and life. Hope your week has gone well. ~SHEL~
