Guitar-based alternative rock music that tells chivalrous tales,
complete with silver-screen imagery from the organ player.
The Skinny Skulls manifested themselves at Halloween in 2002, after
lifelong friends Edward Morgan and Stuart Cresswell formed a rock band
in 2000. Curiously all previous biographies have read like an excerpt
from a fantasy role-playing-game scenario. This is the band's first
decipherable version.
An EP of studio recordings was produced in 2003, scarily featuring
Elliott Andrews from the Kate Nash band on drums. The group toured
England under the guise of Cherry Atrium in 2003-4, playing shows with
many top live acts including Motion City Soundtrack and Biffy Clyro.
They made an appearance on the Kerrang! Club Tour supporting SikTh.
Long time friend of the group Henry Dalton began co-writing music with
Stuart in 2004. Henry's organ playing brought vaudeville to the
Atrium's voodoo. The resulting trademark ‘post-medieval-gothic-
oriental-nautical-espionage-core’ sound is more of a confession than a
genre. The band members are all geeks who fell in love with rock 'n'
roll.
Friendships continued to steer the way when Australian born Grant
Dirckze from seminal hardcore punk band Blitz Babiez began playing drums with the group in 2005.
With over ten years touring experience, including supports performed to
The Offspring and Blink 182, Grant’s expertise has honed the band's
direction and brought unprecedented drive to the music. Antony Bowker
from the mysterious city of Shattrah completes the line-up on bass
guitar.
Members of the band co-founded an independent recording label with
other like-minded UK artists. Dead Letter Recordings represents a consortium of
international bands and singer-songwriters who have collaborated and
inspired each other musically.
Henry Dalton writes, directs, and edits for television. He
independently releases commissioned productions through TDF
Films and recently produced a series of adverts for the global
cosmetics retailer Lush. Grant Dirckze concocts exquisite gastro
delights in the restaurant at a rustic retreat in the country. Antony Bowker & Stuart Cresswell earn their living by negotiating, navigating, and occasionally writing science fiction. Edward Morgan recently exited the British
Army, and as ever his spirit still haunts The Skinny Skulls.
While the band has been faithfully developing material in the studio,
preparations are finally underway for a full length recording plan to
be realised. As the plot thickens, a handful of shows are being performed
in advance of the anticipated debut album 'Songs Lost At Sea' being produced.
