Congratulations to all local, professional musicians. With
our networking and sense of community, we have scored a victory. We have spoken out when proper respect for
our profession wasn’t shown, and we have been heard.
I am pleased to say that I received a call yesterday
afternoon from Harley Hotrods. Lynn
Palmer, the source of our angst has been removed from her position as
Operations Director. There is an
overhaul of management taking place.
Mr. Wayne Thompson, a man I have worked with on many occasions for
charity bike rallies, poker runs, and most recently Bikers for Babies has
stepped in to clean house and make sure the bands are properly treated. I know
Wayne to be a straight shooter who will honor his commitments and follow
through with his promises. His focus will be the music, and making sure Harley
Hotrods remains a great venue for KC’s best bands.
I can’t thank all of
you in KC’s music community enough for your support and help in spreading the
word when there was a problem with this venue.
I am now hoping I can count on you to make sure our fellow musicians
know, and our fans know that Harley Hotrods will be a great place to play, eat,
drink, and party with our friends in Blue Springs.
Wayne has informed me that the schedules will be poured-over
early next week to make sure that every gig currently booked is verified, and
any gaps in the schedule filled. I look
forward to playing there again, and continuing to work with Wayne for a long time
to come.
Just stopping by to say "Hey!"Hope all is well. Also to spread the word that we are looking for a new bass player/singer.Matt gave us his notice that he's retiring from the band at the end of August.Kinda sucks but the show must go on.So if you no someone looking...we'll be holding auditions.Thanks-Brion H.
If
you’ve booked shows at Harley Hotrods, you should seek another show for that
date. They are unreliable and untrustworthy in terms of business with musical
professionals.
Lynn, the booking person at Harley Hotrods has e-mailed me to
cancel our June 26th & 27th shows. Yes, that’s right;
with less than 9 days notice. She flat-out
lied to me, saying she had sent an e-mail and made a phone call to tell me last
week. I could see not getting an e-mail,
or even not getting a voice mail, but not getting either? I call bullshit.
I
was forwarded an e-mail from a fellow musician that showed she had plans to
replace us without notice over a week ago. I have confirmation from someone
inside their organization that they had planned to replace us over a week ago.
But they obviously lacked the backbone to tell me until it was brought to their
attention that I was aware of their plans.
Salamander has
been very good to Harley Hotrods. We played their grand opening with less than
a day’s notice. We bailed them out again
soon after that when they needed a band for a Sunday morning bike rally. We
have packed their bar when the weather was most inhospitable. In return, we
have been shit on.
Don’t let this happen to you or your
band.
This is a business.
This is how I pay my bills and feed my kids. I would think they would
have some respect for others who are just trying to make a living.
In
short: Avoid Harley Hotrods. Don’t book shows there, don’t drink there, and
encourage your friends, fans, and families to spend their money at a more
respectful establishment.
Please pass this note on to any
musician or music lover you may know.
