Welcome. I'm Cheryl Gaudet, a singer-songwriter from Nova Scotia, Canada. I've been writing, playing guitar and performing pretty much my entire life. My newest cd, South Shore Moon, is a bit of a tribute to the artists who influenced me as a child growing up in the height of the great music in the sixties and seventies. The title track, South Shore Moon as well as Everything Has Changed and So Tired were co-written with John Rogers.
This is my second record, (GREEN ON BLUE was released in 2000) and features Brian Bourne on Chapman Stick and Tom Roach on drums. The grooviest players in my universe! Juno Award winner, Terry Pullium Co-produced this project with me at his Sound Market Recording Studio in Halifax with engineering wiz kid, Haley Thomas.
Over the years I've enjoyed radio play, mainly on CBC and recently adult FM stations have been supporting me too. I've also enjoyed sharing the stage with some great musicians including Ian Thomas, Sarah Harmer, Susan Aglukark, Valdy, Jackie Washington, Mose Scarlett, Rick Fielding, Katherine Wheatley, Laura Smith and new comers, Rose Cousins and Brooke Miller.
You may have heard about the Eaglewood Folk Festival in Pefferlaw, Ontario? I founded it in 1989 while I was living in Toronto. We had a blast celebrating its twentieth birthday this summer!
I love songs that groove and people often compliment me on my gutsy guitar style. I started fooling around with alternate tunings in the early eighties and found that I could create a lusher sound and incorporate lead lines and guitar harmonies more easily. I play by ear, and am motivated by the muse. I also play harmonica, percussion and mountain dulcimer. My lyrics are inspired by pieces of a memory, a mood or scenario that I want to capture. I've been told that my voice is pure, like Joni or Bonnie Raitt.
I try to stay true to my art, honor my gifts and enjoy every opportunity to share them with anyone who wants to listen. Let me know if you like what you hear. And if you're in Mazatlan, Mexico you can catch me playing at one of the many music venues here.
Peace,
Cheryl
