    yes indeed! it's that time again. join me & my fabulous guests for this year's extravaganza. please share this post ;) The brainchild of Oakland artist/musician Sean Lee, The Cheshire Rock Opera, now nearing its 10th year, is a full-immersion participatory experience weaving together popular songs, musical renditions of Carroll's works, and audience interaction, at a costumed Tea Party you will never forget! In the last flickerings of this year of the Dragon, the Oakland Metro Opera house is your host for "Beware the Jabberwock", and Wonderland-themed costumes are strongly encouraged! This madcap evening features a Wonderland Fashion Show and "Queen's Concert", a variety show with special musical guests from Oakland and the greater bay area's bohemian underground. All those in Alice costumes are invited to join the Alice Costume & Dance Competition for fantastic prizes. Hatters, be advised we will be having a maddest hat compatition as well. In addition, local artists will be on hand with vending booths to ply their wares. The evening features talents of Victoria Victrola who will be performing with her band The Vaudevillains as well as providing a tea service, flamingo croquet by Sugar Bunny Invincible, The Secret Circus/clownsnotbombs,the Slow Poisoner's hand crafted drink me label, puppets by Shadow Circus creature theatre, the Hatters' Band (w/members of the Hobo Gobbelins), delux coffee break by 5cent Coffee and MORE!!! (surprise ending) Doors at 8pm $10 in Wonderland costume $20 without costume 8th annual "Checker stripes; a looking glass ball" a secret location in oakland, 1-27-2011 8pm until... come in layered costumes of wonderland characters. prizes will be awarded for the best alice, hatter, fantastic animal, ect. we'll be celebrating L.C.'s birthday on Thursday with a fine variety show, updated rock opera format with special guests: t.b.a. culminated from an early love of the writings of Lewis Carroll (who was also a favorite literature of my household ), into a rock opera which features his effect on popular music & some of the poetry from the book set to music of my own device as well of the efforts of many other prominent song writers in the community. it's first performancefirst show was january 27, 2004 @ Van Kleef's in Oakland. It was quite a production inluding the queen's concert, tea party trio, suitcase puppet show of walrus & carpenter and the jabberwock monstermasks. twas a mad evening of fun. the next was a one man show for an intimate audience of close friends. it's third year running was the mad tea party with a book & c.d. to accompany. the 4th year was a fabulous party in co-operation with the lucid dream lounge. the 5th was a rather dark affair called "the mirror rim" which took place at the Orbis Nex. the 6th "pigs on the wing" took place at the Balazo Gallery in the missin, and again this year to the mission's ElRio for "trials and transformations" our (lucky) 7th annual event. here was my original Idea :I'ts a glam rock opera, Spacey sci-fi, I like ziggy style, and kabuki japanese cats, bunraku, noh theatre. this is a description of a young lewis caroll, in some fanciful asian opium den, being served and having the hallucination that he watered down to create alice's adventures in wonderland. focusing on the bestiary of "Jabberwok", the white rabbit, the tea party, and a god-like presence of the cheshire (cat). seeking performers, puppet craft, and hosts for this would bee epic of psychedelic performance art. follow thee white rabbit... the set so far red queen (an original) white rabbit(+new verses) beautiful soup lobster quadrille the voice of the lobster the walrus & the carpenter (to music) I am the walrus (mutant version) the humpty song (mix of humpty dance with parts of eggman & the original poem) jabberwocky(grunge version & surrealist electronic version) to all tomorrows parties the inverse set also features some surprizes from the collective of songwriters (the likes of the hobo gobbelins, sourmash hug band & accordion plague) http://Cheshire-rockopera.tribe.net determined to produce this piece year after year as long as I am able & some what supported by my peers. ..
