Bio
At age twenty-five, Chet Doxas is accomplished both as a saxophonist as well a composer/arranger. Raised in Montreal, he has profited from music lessons since the age of four. Beginning with piano and drums, he then moved to clarinet, tenor, and alto saxophone in high school. In 1996, he appeared at Carnegie Hall as a member of an All-Canadian jazz quartet in a gala concert series showcasing young North American talent. During that year that he also received the Rico Golden Reed Award at Music Fest Canada in Toronto. While in CEGEP, Chet was honoured as Jazz Report Magazine's "Best Secondary Jazz Musician in Canada." During the first and second year of his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at McGill University, Chet won spots in the prestigious McGill Jazz Orchestra I with which he toured internationally. In 2000, he was selected as a finalist in the BMI International John Lennon Songwriters Award. In 2001, Chet received a scholarship to attend the Banff International Jazz Workshop where he was afforded the opportunity to work alongside Dave Douglas, Hugh Fraser, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner and guest conductor, Maria Schneider. Since age 16, Chet has played on over 80 CD’s with various North American talents. In 2000, he was a featured soloist on the Valentino Orchestra’s CD, Daybreak Express (Sept. 2000: Justin Time Records) which was nominated for an ADISQ award. He has recorded as a leader for CBC’s Jazzbeat and will be releasing his debut CD later this year. Chet has recorded and composed for numerous film soundtracks in Canada, the USA, and France. Most recently, Chet’s playing was featured on the Academy and Grammy Award nominated soundtrack of “Les Triplettes de Belleville”, composed by Ben Charest. Chet appears in many of Montreal's hot spots such as The House of Jazz (form. Biddle’s), Upstairs, Bistro Duluth and Casa del Popolo, leading his own groups or participating as a sideman. He has performed alongside many great jazz artists such as Dave Douglas, Jason Moran, Donny McCaslin, Ben Monder, David Binney, Ingrid Jensen, Christine Jensen, Kevin Dean, Remi Bolduc, Jan Jarczyk, and Steve Amirault. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. -
