About me:
my name is chiara (key-are-ah).
i am a photographer in the san francisco bay area that specializes in the live music/live venue, journalistic, and artistic genres of photography. i have always had a love of the arts from a very early age. i used to sketch, sing, dance, paint, draw, sculpt, act, and make things from the random crap that i would find in the street... basically, anything that i could get my hands on and experience within the arts. though, it wasn't until i took my first trip to sicily at the age of 12 that i really started dabbling with photography. in my junior and senior year of highschool, i had finally found my true passion within the sanctuary of a dark room. the summer of 2003, i was fortunate enough to travel a bit of the world and faithfully carried my two [circa early-mid 70's] 35mm minolta cameras at my side throughout my adventure; one was for black and white film, while the other was for color. sadly, the summer had quickly passed and it was time to go home. after i returned, one of my favorite things to do was to still wander around the bay area with nothing more than some good tunes in my ears and my camera[s] in hand. unfortunately, reality soon hit and i found that i could no longer afford to continue with my passion for photography [due to the cost of film and development], while trying to keep up with this thing they call 'life'.
i have always considered myself to be a purest and despised the idea of digital photography... especially when it first came out. although, after a year of not taking a single photo, i finally broke down and bought my first digital camera in october of 2007. it wasn't much [casio 7.2mp point-and-shoot], but it reawakened my passion for photography and developed my skills in the live music/live venue genre of photography. i now shoot with a canon rebel xsi [12.2mp] digital SLR, but still remain a purest when it comes to my editing. my laptop is now my darkroom and with it, all i do is adjust the lightning, contrast, levels, and sometimes the color hues/saturation on my photos - but none of that fancy photoshop stuff.
with my work, i am trying to show the world what i see through my eyes - being that one perfect moment in time where everything seems to makes sense, to the sadness in the streets, the wonderfully fascinating people that i meet, and to the places that people have never been; or have, but shown in a different perspective... i want to show people life being lived in a way they have never seen it before. i want to give people the magic of a live concert; to feel the energy from the crowd, the passion of the band, and the incredible music that flows through the speakers... no matter what the genre. despite the subject matter, i love capturing that ONE moment in time and making it live forever - it's one of my main passions in life.
i am currently in the process of getting an official website going, and hope to launch it in early 2010. in the meantime, please check out my work, let me know what you think, and have a lovely day!
thanks for stopping by!
cheers!
