Laura: I was born in Alaska, raised in Oregon, and finished out my "growing up" in Michigan.
I recently graduated from Albion College with a BA in English, art and journalism. I was a student at the center in the summer of 2007 and interned at Third World Press, an African American publishing house, as an editorial and aquisitions editor.
Now, I work for the Chicago Center as the Marketing and graphic design facilitator. I love knitting, wandering around the city and thai food. I'm also a book nerd and I have grand dreams of having my own publishing house in the future. But I'd settle for being an editor :)

An 80’s Baby from wonderful Wichita, Kansas. I am a graduate of Southwestern College who dreams of one day becoming the Beauty Editor of Essence Magazine. Until my dream comes true I am working on finding a job that uses all the skills I acquired while completing my Communication degree. When I’m not locked away in my cubical requesting funds, buying books, proof reading orientation schedules, or doing other duties associated with my Program Facilitator for the Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture title—I’m busy being 21. I am[in the words of Lil Wayne]living, laughing, loving, proceeding, and progressing.
Television
Lane: I was born and raised locally in the Hyde Park neighborhood. I went to high school at Kenwood Academy right across the street from Village Foods. At Kenwood I loved playing baseball. I just graduated this year from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. When I was a student at Chicago Center I interned at Southwest Youth Colloborative. Now as an apprentice at Chicago Center, I’ll be working as a Group Living Facilitator and TA. For those of you looking for a good, quick, and cheap meal, I would strongly recommend Valois, which is located very close to Chicago Center on 53rd St. I’m also a big Sox fan, so if you’re looking for someone to give some tickets to, I’m the man.
Books
Joe: I grew up in Trenton MI- 20 miles south of Detroit. I attended Adrian College and decided there was never any hurry to graduate. I switched my major to Social Work my “Senior” year and stayed in college for the super senior plus plan. I came to Chicago Center this past summer, where I completed my field placement hours at Access Living.
I was lucky enough to be offered a position with the center where I am kind of a Jack of all trades- most important of which is holding down the newly constructed Foyer. I’m also known as “the guy with the big TV” so if there is something you want to watch in mind-blowing HD, let me know and we will do it up right.
I’m a big Cubs fan.. but you have to keep that quiet around these parts. This is the year though. I love the city- Hyde Park most of all- and want to stay here long term. If it’s a night time hangout your looking for, The Checkerboard is tops for me. Lately The Falcon has been giving it a run though.

About me: Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture (formerly Urban Life Center) is an experiential study program for college students - almost like a study abroad program within the States. We are located in the Hyde Park lakefront neighborhood of Chicago and students in our program get credit from their college or university while they live here, intern at a Chicago agency or business, and participate in Chicago Center coursework. Housing is provided in furnished apartments and students are given a shared charge account at the grocery store.
This page is set up by the Chicago Center Apprentices staff. We are all Chicago Center alums who work hard in the office helping with marketing, housing, group programs and student programs. We are Laura, Lane, Ashley, Joe and Jenne.

Well here's the deal. Each apprentice is her/his own person and it would take way too much space and time to describe all of our music/movie/tv/whatever tasks. So here is what we are going to do... we are not going to pay attention to the headings and I am just going to write blurbs about each of us. So next to Movies... is a blurb... not a list of our favorite movies. Got it?
