Boston funk and soul revival band The Chicken Slacks have established themselves as a fixture in local funk lore as the band that succeeded the legendary Little Joe Cook in the Thursday residency spot at the historic Cambridge, MA nightclub The Cantab. With their sound firmly rooted in the Stax and Memphis tradition, the seven-piece group's influences range beyond southern soul, from funk (Eddie Bo and Sly Stone) to boogie rock (Creedence, Beefheart). Their Cantab residency (now four years running) is jammed every week, the unpretentious, sweaty crowd of regulars filling the dance floor, the band providing the funk and soul grooves that keep them coming back. The band also performs at clubs, private parties and weddings throughout New England, and are planning to expand their reach further and further from Boston to spread their funky sound far and wide.
