In the heyday of the Seattle Grunge Scene was an anomoly: a small,
untalented band called Free Range Chickens. The Chickens, hobbiests by
nature, nonetheless played numerous shows and clubs around town,
performing for the rich and famous of the Northwest (including, but not
limited to, Weird Al Yankovic).
Then, one fateful day, the
Chickens accepted a gig at a club called Area 51. As you might expect, with
a name like that and music this fine, the Chickens were abducted by a
passing alien craft. After several years of touring the galaxy and playing to
packed houses, the Chickens overpowered their captors and headed for
home in their newly christened Chicken Starship.
Upon returning to Earth the
band once again began sharing their musical gift (and we use the term lightly)
with the Seattle area, and can now be seen far too frequently as the "Shows"
section will demonstrate.
How to describe the Chickens music?
We like to think of it as Blurfry: Blues, Surf, Country. But there's some punk,
some straight ahead Rock, and a very heavy cartoon influence. So you figure
it out, and if you come up with a better name for the style let us know at
