About me:
The Student Coalition Advocating Reform (SCAR) is an organization for students interested in the improvement of the U.S. criminal justice system. Echoing many criminal justice system workers’ claim of widespread and systematic dysfunctionality and injustice, members of SCAR participate in a variety of activities that seek to educate, inspire, and cause change in the way we think and act to bring justice in our communities. Activities are ongoing, and change according to current members’ desires and goals. Currently activities include mentoring of children whose parents are imprisoned, co-organizing the upcoming Chico State Spring 2009 Restorative Justice Teach-in, working with other California reform groups to impact reform legislation and more. The organization is open to all CSU, Chico students interested in criminal justice and not just criminal justice majors. We cannot advise victims of their rights, but we can provide information on those who can help with these issues. Similarly, we do not counsel victims or survivors, but we can provide information for those services under the blog section.
