Sounds Like
"This funky, polyrhythmic instrumental starts out relatively spare and slinky, but soon gathers complexity and nuance as it rolls forth on a four-note riff in the key of D. There's a pleasing contrast between the clear, ringing sound of metal percussion (cymbal, tambourine, bells) and the slightly toasted quality of sounds in the middle and lower registers. These include a cloudy piano and a guitar part whose initial self-restraint blooms to become a disquieting, talky swagger that may bring to mind a certain (older, non-blonde) Beck. The furtive intensity of the droning D really gets under your skin after a few minutes. It's as if you realize that though your hips won't stop moving, you're surrounded by some kind of mossy menace."

"Hipstrumental" is Chico Valentine's second full length cd. All instruments performed by Chico Valentine, except for on "3 birds" Zsa Zsa Valentine played the flute, Chico played the drums, and Kit Demos played the Lowry organ and recorded this track. Zsa Zsa also created the hair/chair collage, as well as other collages that come w/ the cd. Ron Harrity mastered and additionally mixed Hipstrumental. Alonzo Holliday added to the technical wizardry by creating this space and offering sound advice on what to do in case of a possible afterlife. In addition to playing on Hipstrumental, Chico (a.k.a. Francesco) is the drummer for Ocean Sol Jazz. Chico also plays percussion w/ Alonzo Holliday and Kit Demos in an improvisational trio, Mystic Out-Bop Review, consisting of percussion, saxophone, and double bass: Go to Out-Bop
Hipstrumental is now available.

maestro Toto
My first cd, maestro Toto (pronounced with an Italian accent and the second "o" in "Toto" is accented), is a collaboration of local friends who make music because their passion won't allow them to do otherwise; what a relief! This full length cd was conceptualized with having established a modal structure and improvising within those boundaries. On other tracks, intuition opened the door to a dimension of audible treasures such as in the auspicious meeting with Reverend Crank Sturgeon and who, like the others, was worthy of voluminous reverence! I consider myself extremely lucky to have played with the following: Carolyn Ezzy, Alonzo Holliday, Zsa Zsa Valentine, Dave Noyes, Chris McKneally, Ron Harrity, Peter Blackstone, and Kit Demos.
Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.
