chikon hatched in 2006 when old friends Dave Black and Andy Champion decided to get together and try something a little different.
What started out as informal noise sessions soon became a more focused project, with the emphasis kept firmly on free improvisation.
After a handful of very successful live performances the duo decided it was time to document their efforts up to that point, and so over three days in the summer of 2007 they recorded what was to become their debut album - "Sandwich Time" released in February 2008 on the nimo/jazzaction label.
Individually, Dave and Andy have performed internationally with some of the worlds finest artists such as Bob Mintzer, Marc Ribot, Andy Sheppard and Spring Heel Jack to name a few.
Performances also include the London Jazz Festival, Sarajevo Jazz Festival, Gateshead International Jazz Festival and Krakow Audio Arts Festival.
