The pair at the core of this Calgary-based four-piece come from a Métis community far north, where the muskeg’s twilight winters and short clarion summers are near otherworldly. The band’s Pavement-meets-Neil Young shambolic pop-rock has heft, driven by the heartfelt idea of music as lifesaver and revelation.

The Boxes and the Bottles, Ghostkeeper, from And the Children of the Great Northern Muskeg (Saved By Radio)
The northern muskeg in the album title isn't a figure of speech: This band is from the Peace Country in northern Alberta. Shane Ghostkeeper's nimble displaced guitar picking and spoken-sung meditation on bottles, family and cold weather is the sound of privation streaked with joy.

Get ready to feel like your back in the late-60s / early-70s and Sgt. Pepper has his lonely hearts club band playing.
The sound is somewhere between a dose of psychedelia and a smattering of country influence. It actually mixes well and is easy on the ears. The vocals are smooth and sensual, giving you the feeling of comfort.
All in all the music is well worth the listen and the lyrics actually have meaning which these days is like a breath of fresh air.

“If you prefer bonfires to television, lakes over swimming pools,
the aurora borealis to fireworks, and wild soulful sincere ragged
romantic rhythm ’n’ blues music to slick, clean, play-acted angst-
pop, then chances are you'll love the band Ghostkeeper.”
Jesse Powell, Beatroute Magazine, February 2007
i heard my first ghostkeeper song on CKUA one sunny summer afternoon while sitting up in my firetower near high prairie. i have continued to be inspired ever since.
THANKS FOR COMING OUT TO T.O! (i admit it, i'm a facebook junkie and am only checking myspace now). I hope the flights were well worth it and not too treacherous!
