  • Music

I like most everything- not a big fan of rap, opera or country, but most everything else is in there somewhere. Mostly rock (and mostly classic): Journey, Def Leppard, Styx, Chicago, ELP, Yes, oh, lots and lots of others!

Jazz: Pat Metheny, Yellowjackets, Spyro Gyra, Larry Carlton, David Sanborn, many, many more

Unclassifiable: Bela Fleck and the Flecktones

Classical: Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, to name a few

  • Movies

Casablanca is undoubtedly the best movie ever made! Followed by Steel Magnolias, Princess Bride, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spaceballs, Almost Famous
  • Television

Babylon 5/Crusade- easily the best SF to hit TV ever, so, of course, it's not around anymore... Ok, well, B5 was planned that way, but Crusade *sigh*

How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!

    Maya Angelou (1928 - )

    Chrissy:

Yes, YOU! Because you haven't let the MS defeat you. Yeah, you have good and bad days, up and down times, but you come out fighting every time! You're fun, sweet, gorgeous and one tough lady!

    ..

Christopher Reeve- and I think this quote from him says it all:

"I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."

    Declaration of Principles

The Universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice.
The langauge is not Narn, or Human,
or Centauri or Gaim or Minbari
It speaks in the language of hope
It speaks in the language of trust
It speaks in the language of strength and in the language of compassion
In the language of the heart and the language of the soul
But always it is the same voice
It is the voice of our ancestors, speaking through us,
And the voice of our inheritors, waiting to be born
It is the small, still voice that says
    "We are one
No matter the blood, no matter the skin
No matter the world, no matter the star-
    We are one
No matter the pain, no matter the darkness,
    We are one"
Here, gathered together in common cause,
We agreed to recognize this singular truth:
    That we are one
    and this singular rule:
That we must be kind to one another
Because each voice enriches us and enables us
and each voice lost diminishes us
We are the voice of the Universe
    the soul of creation
the fire that will light the way to a better future
    We are one.
    We are one.
    (As spoken by Citizen G'kar)

-J. Michael Straczyinszki, Babylon-5, "The Paragon of Animals"

About me:

I'm pretty normal, I suppose. Well, it depends on your definition of "normal," but by most standards...

I'm "not old, Just Older," and I wouldn't go back for anything. I live in NH, am married with 3 grown daughters and one awesome grandson, one chocolate Lab, 5 cats, and a bunch o' fish. I love, love, love music- all kinds. I started taking piano lessons last March, because I've always wanted to learn to play, and I finally figured that if I didn't start, I never would. So I went out and found me a teacher and here I am. I have a Mason & Hamlin upright screwstringer piano that was built in 1889- it's gorgeous and I love how it sounds. (No, that isn't it in the picture. That is an also gorgeous Schimmel K230T grand that I got to play at a piano party.)

My other musical love is seeing live shows. We tend to go to a lot of concerts in year- jazz mostly with my hubby, and my rock concert buddies (other than the other fans I've gotten to know, of course!) are my girls. There is nothing like seeing music performed live! It's such a wonderful experience.

The other hobby in my life is chili cookoffs. We compete all summer long in International Chili Society sponsored cookoffs and then go to the World's Championship Cookoff in Omaha, NE in October. It's fun and a nice summer hobby.

Other than that, I dabble a bit in writing- nothing serious these days, and spend (I suppose) far too much time on the computer.

Next cook-offs of the 2008 season:

Feb. 2, 2009- RI State, Middletown, RI May 2, 2009- New England Regional, Somers, CT

May 9, 2009- Soldiers' Angels District, Webster, MA
