What's up Chimpanbee? I love your eyes, I know they can stare through my thoughts. Your cleverness helps me breathe without the need of oxygen. You have not yet reached the height of your creativity. May you always have stables of horses to service your needs. The music that flows from your instruments overwhelms me with creativity. You turn the atmosphere ablaze with currents of sweet ethylene when you smile. Polished rock candy comes ever to mind when thinking of you. The sand runes crossing your divided consciousness do speak of contemptuous monsters being slayed by flying phoenixes. Your beauty is equal to the smoothness of a polished gem. Your tears evoke a taste as memorable as honey. How beautiful is the snowshine in your eyes, so directly current from the static in your mind. The skin I shed is a perfume that makes water bubbles so terribly clear to me. So charmingly silky, your skin is like a teardrop on a popsickle. How it passes there and back again like a tear drop glistening in moonlight.

….RIHANNA FANS….BUT JUST NOT FOR THEIR LITTLE SISTERS…. Waterford appears to be the place to be for young bands at the minute having produced some of the most successful acts of last year. One of the latest of such bands to make their way to the forefront is Chimpanbee. Winding down from their sound check in Sheebeen Chic, if the banter between the four Waterford lads is anything to go by, then Chimpanbee is a band with plenty to say for themselves. Chimpanbee is comprised of Ger Reid, lead singer and guitarist, Mike Fox on drums, Paul Barry on bass and Damien O'Brien on keyboard. Born out of the rubble that was left behind by a previous band, The Creaks, Ger Reid is quick to point out that the change in line up is not the only difference between the two bands. "When we started Chimpanbee it was 'The Creaks with a keyboard', and not with Paul, but we eventually got him back because of what he brings. So we had a different bass player and then we brought Damien to The Creaks. Me and Damien started writing a collection of songs together, and once they started to come together and really develop a sound, we thought we really have a band here." Line up, instruments and name aside, Reid is adamant that the main difference between Chimpanbee and The Creaks is the extent to which they have matured and developed "as musicians and as people". "Maturity has a big thing to do with it. We're young men, and every day we're learning something new. When we wake up the world throws something new at you every day. And that actually plays a big part in your musical influence and in growing as a band as a people." "There's nothing we haven't gotten over as a band. We've had roadies; we've had close mates pass away. Anything that could have gone wrong for us did go wrong. We come from a small town with very little music scene, very few bands, and we've had to really sieve through the shit to get to just this small stage now with four guys. " While Chimpanbee have been formally together since February 2010, the band has been filmed for over five years now by director, Paul Lynch, who is set to release a documentary based on the band. Reid explains how this situation happened to come about. "Five years ago a friend of mine was killed in a car crash and myself and Damien got together, wrote a song and released it.It sold over a thousand copies, RTÉ Nationwide did a story on it. All the money we got from the CDs we gave to the family. And I was sitting at a pool table one day and I was playing away, and at the other table was a director and he was doing a film about a youth group. And he was mentioning how he can't get rights to put music into his films, so he has no music in his films. So I turned around and said I'm in a band I have tracks." After listing to the tracks Lynch began to follow the Ger Reid and Damien O'Brien with a camera. Reid went on to form 'The Creaks' without Damien and Lynch continued to film. "He was filming all the gigs and all the fights and all the recording and all the break ups, and then next thing you know it's kind of getting more serious. And then The Creaks broke up and then he was following me, and he did some interviews with me and what I'm doing. I had done stuff on my own and he was filming that and then when this Chimpanbee thing started, the wheels really got set in motion and he started to film that, and the next thing 5 years had passed and he has tapes of footage, buckets and buckets of footage. Everything we've done, our lives, what we've gone through, our family problems, trying to get money." The band has yet to see any of Lynch's footage, and is awaiting the results of the documentary with trepidation. "He literally has everything up to now when we're finally getting the ball rolling and we're recording our debut album and our talent is finally getting recognised, he has us growing up on camera, maturing as a band and learning. And our relationships with each other. I mean, I know when I see this that I'm going to be very emotion." Chimpanbee are a young band with a very strong sense of identity. They describe themselves as "four guys on a mission". "We know where we're going. We know what we're doing. We know how to write songs, we know how to please ourselves and other people at the same time" For these guys it's all or nothing. It is a true love of music that has them in the business in the first place. The dream isn't to be famous, but simply put "to be able to make a living" off what they do." "To us it's the spirit of a fan base. My dream is to be able to release albums and to have, even if we're just a cult band, it there's people who just appreciate us for what we do and understand what we are trying to do…because our lyrics are very important to us." I'm listening to a lot of lyrics of unsigned Irish acts at the moment and I'm seeing that every band is kind of touching on the same thing. There's a lot of frustration and the people who are writing the songs are putting it down on a page but it's not getting recognised. You can turn on the radio and you'll hear a song my Rihanna about 6 times a day about going out and dancing in a club and shaking your arse. I had my 11 year old sister singing yesterday 'sticks and stones my break my bones but whips and chains excite me'. "I like pop music and it has its place but should it control everything? Is it right for an 11 year old girl to be going about singing about whips and chains?" "I'm not saying that our lyrics are any better for children, and there not, but when was the last time you turned on the radio and you heard songs that actually moved you, that actually had a bit of feeling?" "Music has a power and music is a weapon, I guarantee you that for every mood you have you have a song for that mood. You have a song that every time you hear reminds you off something, and it's the words, it's what they're saying." "It's not like we're trying to write a catchy tune and we'll write the lyrics then, if our music is telling a story then we try to tell the story with the music as well." 2011 is all about recording and touring for Chimpanbee. "We're recording our album, and every couple of weeks we'll take a week off and we'll gig three or four times, Dublin and Cork mostly…I fully believe that if you can get the capital behind you, you'll get other counties to follow you then." August is the planned release date for their debut album 'Can't stop or rewind'. Before realising the record however the band have decided to re-record the entire album for a fourth time. "That's how much it means to us to get it right." In the recessional, negative spot that is Ireland at the minute; it is truly inspiring to see four charming, sincere and passionate young lads who are refusing to settle for anything other than their dream. - Louise Tierney .. .. .. .. ..DOWNLOAD OUR MUSIC NOW!.. ..High quality, full tracks.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .... .. .. ..
