Charley Hinchcliffe
Singer, songwriter, guitar player who’s home grown out of the Southern California area. His sound fuses the early 90s alternative rock vibe with the psychedelic, progressive sounds of the late sixtes infused with his heartfelt and soulful vocals. His straightforward approach to songwriting and composition are simple, yet complex in their musical arrangements.
Born on July 26th, 1981 in Glendale, California- into a household that surrounded him with music. His mother was a classically trained singer and ballet dancer who also played an array of instruments. Some of her favorite artists that would later influence his music included Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, and Paul Simon.
In his early teens, he developed a taste for the grunge rock bands blooming from the nineties era, the most influential being Nirvana. It was at this time when Charley was inspired to begin playing guitar and singing. A few years later, he developed a reggae punk band called 3 Minute Limit with a few of his school mates from jazz band at Hoover High School. The band gigged the local Los Angeles music scene and gained a fan base and even radio play on the local 89.9FM KCRW L.A. Reggae Radio Show. A year later, fellow band member and co-founder Arthur Walter died in a motorcycle accident. This greatly affected Charley, and he channeled his loss into his music which was now a solo effort.
Charley has played at local Los Angeles venues such as the Whisky A Go Go, The Key Club, Cine-a Grille in The Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood and many more with a revolving door of some of L.A.’s best musicians including Michael J. Parlett, Hans Zermuehlen, Dan Baker, Julio Figueroa and K.T. Tyler. He has also worked with Mike “Majik” Boyd (Grammy nominated singer, songwriter) who helped him to develop and perfect his sound. It was his shows that he put Charley on stage with some music legends such as Carl Carlton, Al Wilson, Cuba Gooding Sr, just to name a few.
He landed a weekly slot at San Diego hot-spot The Flying Bridge.
Now with a degree in Communications from California State University, Charley is performing in the Southern California area with a loyal following. His music can not be defined as one genre, it effortlessly mixes styles and sounds from acoustic folk pop to progressive jazz rock fusion to form a brand unlike any other, but like so many before. His debut album entitled “Hinchcliffe” hit the stores early 2009 and his single, “So Come On” soon followed.
He is now working on his sophomore studio effort which will be out in the spring of 2010.
He has moved to New York City and can be found all around, street performing at local farmers markets and train stops across the city! <
