A Brooklyn based saw/piano duo who have been together four years, Ching Chong Song writes songs that are lyrically and musically at once dark, serious, and funny. In unapologetic cabaret fashion they candidly address the audience both with assertive, melodic singing and unconventional instrumentation. Coming up from the underground to play at prestigious clubs on tour in the U.S. and Europe they are happy to the core to be called, "…a genuine New York oddity..."
Ching Chong Song has been on six European tours playing in large venues in Berlin, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam as well as tiny towns where they find small, subversive collectives and build strong bonds with the people they meet. Some international shows include legendary club SO36 in Berlin and Art Basel, the largest art fair in the world, Ching Chong Song was showcased as part of the Porticus project along with Kevin Blechdom and Wolf Eyes. They’ve played at the 2007 Berlin Porn Film Festival showcase and Ladyfest, Rotterdam. Ching Chong Song’s most recent European tour included an ongoing collaboration with many artists such as Kevin Blechdom, Barnwave, Justice Yeldham, Blevin Blechdom, Ironing, and Irene Moon making up Slaughterin’ Slobbersville, a vaudevillian genetic mutant war set in 2024 which culminated at the 2009 Donau Festival in Krems, Austria.
In mid 2009, Ching Chong Song released a second album produced and mixed by Kevin Blechdom called Everything Is For The Babies, featuring Susan Hwang (The Debutante Hour/Bushwick Book Club) playing accordion and singing. Most recently, Dan, Julie, and contra bassist Geoff Larson have embarked on a recording journey with Max Hart (We Are Scientists), combining abstract piano, saw, vocal, ukulele and bass instrumental compositions with songs. Ching Chong Song will head down under this December to join fellow Slobbersville comrades for shows and festivals in New Zealand and Australia.
